We recently purchased a used GS728TPv2 switch and now need to configure VLANs on it. But it insists on having a Netgear online account in order to manage the switch, and when we register an account, it says that the device is not registered to this user. We tried registrating it and it says Device is already registered.
How do we get this switch registered?

Thanks for your reply.
I don't need the cloud/remote management nor the warranty as it's a used product. I just need to be able to setup VLANs on the switch using the local web management, which I'm not able to do since the local web management interface is completely nerfed if the switch is not linked to the original registered account.
It's been mentioned in other forums that only NETGEAR support can help with this but is there any other way of resolving this? If not, this switch will just have to go to the dump, which is a shame as this sort of tactics that NETGEAR employs to "force" users to register in order to unlock basic configuration features will just contribute to the amount of tech waste instead of being re-used.
It's also ironic that the switch is marketed as their "Smart Manage Pro" range when it can't actually be managed without a cloud account, unlike previous versions of their switches.

Re: Device is already registered.
A NETGEAR account is required to be able to use the Insight Remote/Cloud management feature. It is also used for device registration. After registering the device, users can unlock the switch full warranty and the support entitlement, as well as getting timely updates on security or privacy features, and firmware releases.
Please contact NETGEAR Support to help move switch registration and mark appropriately. https://www.netgear.com/support/contact.aspx
You will need to verify the proof of purchase and make sure you are the original owner. Thanks.

Re: Device is already registered.
Please try resetting the switch to factory default if you have not done so. When you factory rest this switch, it will know it’s already been registered and won’t ask you to do so, as long as it’s connected to the internet after the full factory reset until it boots up.
After you reset the switch, you should be able to login to the switch local GUI using the default credentials. Please refer to the KB article for how to login to GUI: https://kb.netgear.com/31260/How-do-I-access-the-admin-page-of-my-ProSAFE-Smart-Managed-Switch
If you still cannot login to the GUI, then you will need to contact NETGEAR Support. Because it means the prior owner has not removed the switch from his Insight network. Therefore, as soon as the switch connects, it’s going to pull down the configuration from the prior owner’s Insight network setup and lock you out again. This is a security feature so that hardware can’t be stolen and re-purposed/re-sold without the original owner releasing ownership.
Hope it helps.
