GS116eV2 Accessing the Web Gui

To Whom It May Concern:

Sometimes last year I turned on the GS116eV2, went into the settings, mess around a bit, change the static IP, change the password and everything was working fine. Yesterday 1/5/24, I turn it on and I was unable to get back into the switch via the setup static IP. I factory reset it and the utility detects the switch and its default IP but I can't get in via the Web Gui. The switch discovery tool did not work. After a evening of think what would be wrong, I thought maybe I was using a usb ethernet adapter to a laptop that is why it was giving me issues to either switch back to DHCP or even change the default IP.

Today 1/6/24, I decided to directly connect it to a PC instead, no adapter. The discovery tool works and the prosafe utility work as well but I am unable to make any changes to the IP via the utility. The discovery tool picks up the switch, the IP and Firmware Version say Check Web Gui. The prosafe utility shows firmware 2.6.0.43.

Up until now I still can't get into the 192.168.0.239 via any browser. I thought my unit was busted or it bricked, so I open a new box unit that is a 5 port smart switch, its using the same default ip 192.168.0.239 and I still couldn't get into the Web Gui.

I am here asking for your help / suggestions on what am I doing wrong. How come I can't get the Web Gui to come up when it directly connected to the PC. I don't have any other connections connected to it. Just the cable from the switch to the PC. Any information is appreciated. I bet it is something really simple and I missed a step. Thank you in advance!!

Is a connected PC have a static IP address set for 192.168.0.49 and then connect the PC to the switch and then try to access 192.168.0.239? Don't have the switch connected to any other devices or router, just the switch and wired PC.

Re: GS116eV2 Accessing the Web Gui

Thank you so much. Now that you mentioned setting static to PC to .49 kind of rings a bell now. I think I remember doing something like that when I first messing around with it. I appreciate your response and I was able to get in.

One last question, Does the PC have to be .49? for example I want to switch it to 192.168.52.239, can my PC set to 192.168.52.5 and still be able to access the Web Gui?

Re: GS116eV2 Accessing the Web Gui

Nope. To reach the default IP address 192.168.0.239 on the /24 subnet, the PC or Mac must be configured to ab address in the 192 168.0.x subnet, mask 255.255.255 0 with a random selected default gateway which does not have to be operational, like 192 168 0.1 8r 193 168.0.254.for example. Avoid 0 or .255 ...
