GS724T v?

GS724T v?

I have a customer with 4 gs724t smart switches.  They recently had a audit (they are afinancial institution), and the audit recommended they thurn off telnet.  On the v4 of this switch the GUI interface has the option to turn telnet on and off by going to maintenance->Troubleshooting->Remote Diagnostics.  On their switch the GUI in the same place does not have the Remote Diagnostics option.  I am guessing they are v3 or earlier.  Is there a firmware upgrade for this or is there a different way to turn off telnet?  There is no console port on these switches that I can see.

Re: GS724T v?

Hi Richai,

Thanks for your confirmation.

Please upgrade to 6.3.1.19 if switches are GS724Tv4.

The new firmware enhanced the feature just you want(Remote Diagnostics)

Please reference following guide to upgrade:

Re: GS724T v?

Hi richai,

Welcome to NETGEAR community!Smiley Happy

Could you please confirm the firmware version on the GS724T which don't have option to disable remote Remote Diagnostics.

If the firmware is 6.3.x.x and the switch is GS724Tv4.

Please upgrade to 6.3.1.19 since we add this option on 6.3.1.16 or later release.

If the firmware version is 5.4.x.x and the switch is GS724Tv3.

We don't have GUI option to control it.

But we have another way to disable Telnet and i can send PM to you about it.

Let me know if your switches are GS724Tv3.

Thanks,

Daniel.

Re: GS724T v?

I am not sure how to reply to the response to my question but, the switches are V4 and are out of date on the firmware.  Is updating the firmware the same as other hardware, download on PC and push to switch, ot is there a special way to do it?  Thanks for your quick response on the initial question.

Re: GS724T v?

I have Netgear XS712T and it does not have remote diagnostic option to disable.

I want to disable Telnet on this Switch due as it shows port 60000/Telnet open.

I am using 6.1.0.33 Firmware

Is there any other way to disable the Remote Diagnostic/Telnet

Re: GS724T v?

Hi @santoshs,

Welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂

Since there is no Remote Diagnostics in GUI this means what you have is XS712Tv1. To disable Telnet access you can instead run the command below to set the number of Telnet connections to "0" users:

(XS712T) >enable

(XS712T) #telnetcon maxsessions 0

Re: GS724T v?

Hi @santoshs,

You may connect to one of the ethernet ports. Then using terminal emulator open a Telnet session to the switch IP address using port 60000.

Re: GS724T v?

Hi Reena

THanks for your help..

If I disable the telnet port from the terminal, is it possible to enable it back again and how?

as I do not see any option for telnet in GUI.

Re: GS724T v?

Hello @santoshs,

Once change has been made, a factory reset has to be performed to be able to connect to the switch via Telnet again. As this will delete all configuration, I suggest to save the config file first before making any changes. This way you would be able load the config file (with Telnet enabled) in case you need to re-enable Telnet access.

Have a lovely day,
