Hi,
Looks like the SmartControlCenter utility does not discover my GS728TP switch.
Here's what I did.
- Powered on the switch, no network cables connected.
- Pressed the Factory Defaults button, for at least 2 seconds.
- Download & install the SmartControlCenter utility
- Configured my PC with an IP address in the range of 192.168.0.x
- Using networkcable connected my PC's network adapter directly with the switch. Plugged cable in 1st port of the switch.
- Successful ping to 192.168.0.239, factory default IP address of switch
- Launched SmartControlCenter utility, clicked Discover button, but no device found.
Any ideas about what the problem could be?
Regards,
Frederiek

Really talking of a GS728TP(v1?), an almost once decade old switch and a new scratch installation? Ok...
One thing that comes into my mind is be some firewall or other overly "smart" Internet "security" software killing the discovery.
Open a Web browser and try to access http://192.168.0.239/
Alternatively, consider trying the NETGEAR Switch Discovery Tool (NSDT)

Re: GS728TP - Discovering the switch on the network
I am investigating how to configure some supplicant device to access a network via IEEE 802.1x. In order to test the proper operation, I need to set up an authenticator/authentication server. So, I asked IT if they had any spare/leftover switch that supports IEEE 802.1x, and the GS728TP is what has been bestowed upon me.
I tried accessing the device via the webservice on the switch, as you suggested, and that seems to work.
Thanks.
