I have a switch not currently connected to network, that will repalce an aging switch it has static IP address 10.100.6.225 and have created a vlan 50 which will be for shoretel devices, set up a VLAN with IP address 10.100.50.227 and IP routing in enabled.
The new switch has a gbic so current media converter will go away, however I have all ports currently left on vlan1 and ports 1-46 Untagged on vlan 50, if I plug a pc into any port 1-46 I can ping 10.100.6.227 but not 50.227, what am I missing? and how should I configure port 48 that will have a shoretel switch on the 50 network connected to it?
Thank you

Hi Dakota68,
Sorry for delayed reply,
please check if VLAN ID 50 is set as the PVID for ports 1-46 by going to
Switching> VLAN > Advanced > Port PVID Configuration.
The PVID column for port 1 - 46 should say "50" (The VLAN ID for VLAN .50)
Please see more on PVIDs on page 113 here:
And yes, I recommend you create another vlan for servers.
Try that and let us know if it works

Re: GS752TP Cant ping VLAN IP
Hi Dakota68,
Did you mean to say, "...if I plug a pc into any port 1-46 I can ping 10.100.6.227 225 but not 50.227..." since you said it is the static IP assigned to the new switch?
Also please see steps to configuring VLANs and VLAN Routing starting on pages 110 and 165 form the Software Admin Manual found here:
Looking forward to your reply
Thanks

Re: GS752TP Cant ping VLAN IP
Thank you, any idea why I cant ping the second IP address plugged direrctly into the swch which is disconnected from the rst of the network? I set up a 24 port first in a differnet builidng and can ping both IP addresses on that one and dont see anything I did differently?
Secondly I am leaving PC's and servers on default vlan of 1, would you recommend I leave vlan 1 alone and create another vlan for servers etc as well as the .50 vlan?
Thanks

Re: GS752TP Cant ping VLAN IP
Also for port 48, you can try to set VLAN 50 as "T" or tagged and leave the PVID as 1.
Hope this helps.
