I have a Netgear 8 ports GS108 switch at home. At work they were going to throw away a 24 port FS726T. I'm wondering if I should keep what I have at home or should I take that larger switch? Is the FS726T better (ie. faster and just as easy to manage - doing nothing)? or should I just forget it... ? Thanks for any help.

Re: newbie

The GS108 is an 8 port gigabit switch, the FS726T has 24 fast Ethernet (100mbps) ports and 2 gigabit ports - so you can connect more devices if you need to, but the connections will be slower, although you're not likely to notice the difference in performance. The FS726 is also a SmartSwitch which means it has some degree of management capabilities, but the GS108 is a dumb switch (unless you have the GS108T or GS108e models). Personally I would grab the FS726 and hang on to it.
