PowerLine Adapters - Do I need to set up a new wireless system?

I purchase a PowerLIne Wifi to extend my network into a backyard building. It sets up easily as long as I set up a new SSID that is labeled on the PLW1010v2 unit. I thought that I could just expand my existing wireless network. After numerous discussions with the support team, no one can give me a clear answer to the questions or tell me how to extend the system. Can someone answer my simple questions? I have been extremely frustrated by the inablity of the support team.  Please help me out.  As you may detect I am not a skilled networking professional.

What are those questions?

The subject says "Do I need to set up a new wireless system?

I'm afraid that doesn't mean much to me.

What are you trying to do?

I was not very clear on my post.  Here are my questions.

1. I was hoping that the i could use my Powerline Wifi to expand my existing wireless network. What I am able to do is establish a new wireless network with a new SSID and password. Is it possible to extend my existing Wifi and SSID without creating a new one?

2. If it is possible to extend my existing Wifi, I do I do it?

You can change the SSID and password on your Powerline AP to whatever you like.

Check the manuals for the bit "Customize Your Network Settings".

If you visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

you can feed in your model number and find the documentation for your hardware.

Look for the model number on the label on the device.

The problem there is that if you use the same details you can confuse some wifi devices. They see identical SSID and passwords and may not know which is the best.

I find that I can have separate wifi networks and leave the wifi clients to navigate the new connection. Afer all, the device will have to switch between the two sources anyway.

It is really up to the wifi clients to work with whatever wifi sources you throw at them. They manage the handover.

I don't understand this bit:

If your Powerline network gets its Internet from the same router that produces your other wifi, then it is extending your existing wifi.

Thanks, I never thought about changing the network name to the name of my current wifi network.  Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.
