Many things can cause powerline interference. 

Have you tried them in the same room on the same circuit to ensure it isn't interference from other devices? 

Things that can cause interference:

• old/bad/cheap wiring
• distance. Crossing circuits increases distance a lot and drops speeds and increases chances of interference causing issues
• gfci outlets
• surge protectors
• arc fault breakers
• old/bad electronics
• cheap cell phone charges
• high draw appliances
