Historically, Ethernet switches come in fixed configurations (16-port, 48-port, etc.). However, as AV and IT collide, a new class of switch has come to market. The modular Ethernet switch combines the configurability of a matrix switch with the power and scalability of Ethernet to allow systems more custom-tailored to each end user’s needs.
Objectives:
• Learn about this new class of Ethernet switch
• Understand how to configure and design AV systems with a flexible modular Ethernet switch at the core
• Compare and contrast the flexibility of a hybrid copper/fiber modular Ethernet switch against the traditional configurable matrix

Multicast is a crucial technology that allows high bandwidth streams to move around a network without overwhelming the entire network.
Objectives:
• Learn what multicasting is, and why it is necessary for any practical AV over IP solution
• Identify tools for configuring and troubleshooting multicast networks
• Understand the difference between multicasting and VLANs, and a little bit about how they interact

More and more of AV distribution is moving to Ethernet networks. AV system designers and installers must familiarize themselves with the important concepts that make these new systems work. Even if you aren’t planning to become an IT systems admin, life gets easier when you can speak their language.
Objectives:
• Learn the basics of important networking topics for AV: multicast, VLANs, routing vs switching
• Understand the different switch topologies and concepts: non-blocking, spine and leaf, link aggregation
• Apply calculations of video bandwidth to network design in order to ensure a flawlessly working AV over IP system
After these training sessions, we will provide training materials or slides here if possible.
