Migrating Time Machine from AFP to SMB

Was excited to see Time Machine-over-SMB support in the upcoming 6.9.3 beta

I'm curious, though: If I already have Time Machine set up to use AFP now, will switching to SMB be as simple as, say, marking a checkbox? Or is there an easy way to re-map an existing backup on an AFP share to an SMB share? Or will I have to start all over (losing my existing backups in the process)?

Time Machine is notoriously finicky, which is why I ask. Typically I like to test betas with features I'm anticipating, but this is a case where I'd rather not have to sacrifice 6+ months of backups.

Re: Migrating Time Machine from AFP to SMB

You should just need to switch from AFP to SMB and it will use SMB instead.  It's configurable from the Time Machine screen.  You shouldn't lose anything.
