Hi,
I'm currently running OS 6.5.0 on my PRO 6.
Can anyone share his/her experiences with OS 6.7.0 on a PRO 6, and the behaviour of the fans in particular?
Thanks!

System - 1962 RPM
CPU temp - 45 C
System temp - 51 C
On "Cool" setting.

Re: OS 6.7.0 on PRO 6: How are the fans behaving?
I have a Pro 6 and an Ultra 6 Plus running latest 6.7 beta.
Both exhibit strange fan behavior for the chassis fan with units showing 0 rpm to over 10500 rpm.
This persists regardless of fan setting (Cool Balanced or Quiet)
The only thing that gets them to work properly is this sequence of events.
Set to Cool. Reboot. See if fans behave normally. If not, reboot again.
With my devices, after several reboots the fans settle and actively regulate RPM dependent on load and temperature.
It is impossible for the units to maintain proper fan function on quiet or balanced settings.
That has been my experience with all the 6.x releases. I've even changed fan header connections to no avail.
Id be very pleased if somehow this gets resolved.

Re: OS 6.7.0 on PRO 6: How are the fans behaving?
Thanks for your replies, which for me means that I will stick with 6.5.0 for now.
The solution that mdgm suggested to my similar question in the past, may also work for you in the context of your current issues: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/OS-6-5-2-still-causes-fan-issues-on-the-PRO-6-l...

Re: OS 6.7.0 on PRO 6: How are the fans behaving?
I have a Xeon X3230 installed in my ReadyNas Pro 6 running 6.7.0T-206 (Beta 4). Fans are quiet and show the correct speed.
CPU Fan - 1050 RPM
System - 1960 RPM

4xxx rpm: at that speed your NAS must sound like a vacuum cleaner :-(. Would you mind sharing the speeds under normal operation?

Hi
Working fine here - but they are custom fans.
CPU 1318rpm System 869rpm (but I do have a resistor on this to slow it down)

Betreff: OS 6.7.0 on PRO 6: How are the fans behaving?
My fans on an Ultra 6 + had been behaving normally on all OS 6 versions until the final release of 6.7.1. On the beats the fan behaviour was normal, on the final version it isn't. Now system fan reported as running below threshold, then speeds up to 1506 regardless of fan setting. CPU fan also sitting at 1506 regardless of fan setting.
Later the system fan seems to slow down but then the alert when it appears to get to 458rpm, then it speeds up again.
Changing the fan speed setting makes no difference to the fan speeds.

Thank you for your feedback on 6.7.1.
Going backwards in this thread, I noticed you have upgraded your fans. Mine are still the standard ones that come with the PRO 6, i.e. my results may vary. 6.5.0 is the last version that make my fans behave as expected, i.e. I am reluctant to upgrade to 6.7.1 until someone with the same standard PRO 6 can confirm all is fine.

Thanks for your feedback. I experienced exactly the same with 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 which is why I stayed on 6.5.0. I am reluctant to test 6.7.1 knowing that I won't be able to go back to 6.5.0 anymore.

Two more data points. I have a Pro 6 running 6.6.1 and the fans are very responsive, the settings work and they report the speeds fine. I did put in a xeon X3320 and under load it did sound like a vacumn cleaner. however i repalce with noctua CPU fan and now it is whisper quiet and still keeps unit quiet under full load (PLEX transcoding of bluerays)

Many thanks for your input.
Are there any more experiences with a PRO 6 in its standard hardware configuration, especially the standard fans?

Re: OS 6.7.0 on PRO 6: How are the fans behaving?
Mine worked fine through 6.7.4. I retired them before moving to 6.8.x.
There have been a couple posts from folks that have the 3-pin CPU fan attached to the I/O board instead of the 4-pin one attached to the motherboard that have had some issues, but there is a solution to that.

Re: OS 6.7.0 on PRO 6: How are the fans behaving?
Moved my PRO 6 from 6.5.0 -> 6.9.1 -> 6.9.2 and now 6.9.3 and they work nice and quiet.
Many thanks to Netgear and this community for keeping my 5 years old PRO 6 capability-wise like new.
