It finally happened to me. I tried to upgrade to the latest beta firmware and it looked like it was going fine until the 2nd reboot. Now it's stuck in Booting. I've read that there's a way to recover the readynas via USB key with firmware copied into it? How do I get my hands on the instructions?

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
Sent you a PM.
I don't think USB Boot Recovery is the answer here and we would like to have a remote look at your system to confirm.

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
The other thing I would like to ask if if you have any peripherals connected to your NAS e.g. a USB hard disk, a UPS connected via USB etc.?

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
Now I am also in the family ...
Brand new RN104 (just unpacked) - starting with firmware upgrade as recommended by the installation process.
Now I only receive the message "booting ..." on the LCD ...
What should / can I do?

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
I fear I've got the same problem here.
My ReadyNAS 104 is about one year old. I accept a firmware upgrade yesterday, but since then, I'm stuck with "booting..." on the LCD panel, and no answer from the power button.
What should I do ?
Thanks by advance.

Actually USB recovery instructions were recently posted here by kohdee. See https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/RN104-Stuck-quot-Booting-quot-after-automatic-6...
Though of course you can also contact support.

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
This worked for me and my RN104: (Click title for link.)
In the event of a firmware upgrade failure, your ReadyNAS may be unable to boot.
Generally, this happens because the new ReadyNAS firmware was not fully written to the chassis caused by something extraneous. When the chassis reboots, it might proceed with trying to upgrade the firmware but fail. The unit may not be bootable from this point. The resolution to this is using the USB Recovery tool to reflash firmware on the ReadyNAS chassis.

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
Hi Guys.
I had also some trouble with the upgrade see here:
Without useful information I tried now also the USB recovery (with image 6.4.0) and in the beginning it looks fine. I had also some minutes ssh access, but suddenly it stopped working. LCD off no access through any tool (web, ssh, RAIDar)... For me it seems USBrecovery might not (!) help in every case. Is it possibele to do the USB recovery with image 6.2.5 (where acn I get this image) and maybe skip 6.4.0 as it is failty at my setup?

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
Maybe on useful (?) information. As I was not able to get the logs, I was at least able to start "top" and here you can see when it freezes... seems some uncompression was or maybe still is ongoing...

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
Well, after trying several USB sticks and different firmwares (6.4.0, then 6.2.5, then 6.2.0) the USB recovery trick bring my ReadyNAS 104 back to "life" with 6.2.0 firmware.
Thank you very much for all the help and for the tool. 🙂

Re: RN104 stuck on Booting after firmware upgrade
USB recovery was not successful - started factory reset :-(.
