4.1.8-T9 Can not see NV via AFP.

Running OS X Lion and RAIDiator 4.1.8-T9 I no longer see my NV via AFP.

Using a Bonjour browser utility my NV doesn't show up. I have disabled and re-enabled AFP I have updated the settings on some of the AFP shares and nothing.

The only thing I see in the netatalk.log is the middle line:
Aug 02 13:11:35.848979 afpd[3979] {status.c:719} (I:AFPDaemon): "nasnv"'s signature is C64B177BA96BF4648EB3A8C9DAE5A480
Aug 02 13:11:35.871344 afpd[3979] {dsi_tcp.c:318} (I:DSI): dsi_tcp_init: socket: Address family not supported by protocol
Aug 02 13:11:35.875973 afpd[3979] {afp_config.c:372} (N:AFPDaemon): AFP/TCP started, advertising 192.168.100.10:548 (2-2-0-p9)

WIth the other two lines I would think that it is working.

If I do an nmap from a linux box I see AFP Port 548 as listening.

Re: 4.1.8-T9 Can not see NV via AFP.

The middle line just says that your NV doesn't support IP v6 - which unfortunately is correct 😉 It shouldn't affect general functionality of the AFP protocol stack, but who knows.

OK, that makes sense.

Just on a whim since it looked like the NV was listening properly I restarted my Mac and now it shows up. I wonder if something was cached in Bonjour.

Re: 4.1.8-T9 Can not see NV via AFP.

I just finished installing T9. Here's the output from afpd:

nas-01-01-3F:~# afpd -V
afpd 2-2-0-p9 - Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) daemon of Netatalk

afpd has been compiled with support for these features:

AFP3.x support: Yes
TCP/IP Support: Yes
DDP(AppleTalk) Support: No
CNID backends: dbd tdb
SLP support: No
Zeroconf support: No
TCP wrappers support: Yes
Quota support: Yes
Admin group support: Yes
Valid shell checks: Yes
cracklib support: Yes
Dropbox kludge: No
Force volume uid/gid: Yes
ACL support: Yes
EA support: ad | sys
LDAP support: No

afpd.conf: /etc/netatalk/afpd.conf
AppleVolumes.system: /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.system
AppleVolumes.default: /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default
afp_signature.conf: /etc/netatalk/afp_signature.conf
afp_voluuid.conf: /etc/netatalk/afp_voluuid.conf
afp_ldap.conf: not supported
UAM search path: /usr/lib/netatalk/
Server messages path: /etc/netatalk/msg/
lockfile: /var/run/afpd.pid

As you can see there's no integrated Zeroconf (Rendezvous/Bonjour/Whatever next) support. So the root cause seems to be somewhere else since the AFP daemon itself doesn't handle any of the Bonjour stuff. This seems to be done by some other process which may have misfired on your NAS.

Edit: whoops, I already had AFP disabled on the NAS I just updated. Just remembered. Will need to update my other NV+ (which I do currently have AFP enabled on).

WhoCares?:
When I ran the afpd -V command I got the same output you did. It looks like it is work normally now. It is also working perfectly with my OS X UID the same as on the NAS now.
