The wording on the current screen might be confusing. Even when the "SMART SNAPSHOT Management" is off, the snapshots are still being managed by the custom settings. The current screen will lead some people to the wrong impression that the settings underneath the control aren't being applied.
Though it would require a larger (or different style) control, using "Custom" instead of "OFF" would be more clear.
I couldn't agree more. Also, unless you're fiddling around with the GUI, there is no way to find this hidden feature. You have to turn off to see that there is more!
