Gmail settings
Hi,
Has anyone managed to get the Gmail alert settings to work?
The Beta says it has been fixed, but I've tried every combination of Username and password (including App specific passwords) with nothing happening.
I've even tried the SMTP relay service, Gmail SMTP server and Restricted Gmail SMTP server, none work.

Re: Gmail settings
Every time you change the Alert settings you need to re-enter the email password. Did you remember to do that when testing different settings.

A while back I was having an issue with it and finally realized it was because I didn't have any DNS entries. Once I added them I was good to go.

NAS settings:
Email: xxxx@gmail.com
Email Account Provider: smtp.googlemail.com
User: xxxx@gmail.com
Password: zzzzzzzz
Advanced options
SMTP server: smtp.googlemail.com
SMTP port: 465
From: xxxx@gmail.com
Use TLS: checked.
As pointed out above, you also need to have valid DNS and gateway addresses configured for any over-the-internet services (including NTP, AV updates, firmware updates, ...). If you are using a static IP address on the NAS, check those settings. (Automatically assigned IP addresses should set this this up correctly).
On the GMAIL account side:
two-factor authentication is not enabled.
"allow less secure apps" is set (I use that instead of app passwords)

Re: Gmail settings
Thank guys,
Yes, it was the DNS settings. I have had to reinstall the OS because of a support issue, and completely forgot about the DNS.
I've now been inundated with alert messages from all the other times I've tried 🙂
