Lost all files and folders after the latest update is it recoverable

A message appears on netgear rn21400 admin page to remove inactive volumes to use the Disk #1,2,3,4.

I cannot access any of the 4 drives.

Any ideas?

Hi ronb2131,

Welcome to the Community!

It will be best if you contact NETGEAR support for data recovery. (https://kb.netgear.com/69/ReadyNAS-Data-Recovery-Diagnostics-Scope-of-Service)

You can also send me the NAS system logs so we can check what caused it but calling support would be the best approach on your issue.

Re: Lost all files and folders after the latest update is it recoverable

Thank you so much John.

I just hoped someone had an idea. I cannot believe that an update should cause complete data loss. Maybe end users should be aware of this. I was just trying to do the right thing with the update.

I cannot afford $200 and $100 hourly for this.

Can I send someone a log to see if maybe this is a simple fix?

Thanks in advance

Hi ronb2131,

You can send the logs to me. You can send it by uploading it to a file-sharing site then send to me the download link via PM (private message).

Firmware updates do not cause data loss.

The problem from your logs shows two drive dropping out of the RAID when it tried to bind the drives together to make the RAID. It could be the hard drives. I see you've had them for 28,579 hours already and that is about the average life I see on hard drives in RAID devices lately. 10 years ago they used to last 50k hours.

If you put your device in Secure Diagnostics mode, I should be able to throw this back together for you. Send your 5 digit code to the same email you sent the logs.

But the reboot required to do one can be the last straw for a failing system.  Thus the need to maintain a backup.
