ReadyNAS 6.10.2 - WTH?

Can someone tell me what this is:  https://kb.netgear.com/000061280/ReadyNAS-OS-6-Software-Version-6-10-2

Why does it download a zip that contains an IMG file and not a deb file?

More importantly, why isn't this downloadable from the device itself as a stable release since it's out of beta?

Why is nothing posted here about this release: https://community.netgear.com/t5/ReadyNAS-Announcements-Stories/bd-p/readynas-release-notes ?

What's going on Netgear?

Sorry, I guess I forgot OS6 OS Upload is actually on the Settings --> Manual Install Firmware section and not App Upload.

That explains the IMG file, but not why its not posted as stable or on the message boards as released.

I'm going to guess that maybe they are waiting to update things like their repositories and the Kernel Plus addon before it rolls out to the automatic firmware update?  Just a guess, of course.

Wouldn't deployment to repositories and such be part of their pipelines for automated deployment when a final release is done?  It is where I work.

I would think so, but don't know.  As I said, just a guess, I have no inside knowledge on it.  I have a feeling the posting on their site where you found the download and the deployment for automatic downloads are a seperate process.  As is the posting of releases here.  Guess someone "jumped the gun" on the upload of the release to the website for manual download.

Sorry, maybe i lost some time but who said it's out of beta? Didn't see the beta 2 for 6.10.2 at the moment. And still my other Nas shows it to Download as Beta Version.

Haven't seen the official Post in the Forum for 6.10.2 to be Stable. And it seems to me that  automatic release downloads are available a week after it is official released.

That first link in the post you quoted from... that's where they put the manual downloads for the stable releases.  They haven't mentioned it being "Stable" here, but that link tells us it is, unless it was put up in error.

Re: ReadyNAS 6.10.2 - WTH?

FWIW, normally there is a delay before a new release is pushed out from the update servers.  That gives a little time for Netgear to react if something goes wrong.  But normally I'd expect the release to be posted here (in addition to the KB article linked above) - usually by @OOM-9 .  That wasn't done, and the KB article was posted back on 24 September.

@JohnCM_S or @Marc_V :  can you clarify the release status of 6.10.2?

@StephenB

ReadyNAS OS 6.10.2 was officially released last week (around the 23rd of September) but it is not yet on the update servers. I'm pretty sure @OOM-9 will be posting an announcement regarding this once it is on the Update servers or might be posting within the week.
