Waiting for 4.1.15

Hi

I am very happy that work is going on with a firmware update for my old Duo.
Consider to try the last beta that has been around for a few months now.
However the long time from release of last beta also make me think
that there was problem with it?

Time frame for "official" 4.1.15?

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

I don't know the time frame.

I'm running 4.1.15 beta with no problems. I think the delay is simply because getting legacy firmware releases out is not a high priority for Netgear.

Is here one more who use 4.1.15 for Duo?

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

Good to hear. I upgraded myself to 4.1.15-T3 yesterday on my Duo.

It seems to work well now, but my first impression was filled with worries.
In the beginning my Mac took very long time to connect as guest if at all.

I tested to reach the NAS from inside Adobe Lightroom (v6) and also move and
delete files from inside Lightroom and that worked as it should and then
I was logged in as registered user with appropriate privileges.

After that I could directly log in to the NAS from Mac OS X finder which
before took time.

I have also tested Time Machine (Yosemite) and works well, but also
here the first run with time machine took very long time for the NAS
to respond. Next time it was normal.

I have done small tests both from two Macs on my network one on Yosemite and the
other on Maverick and both works well it seems.

Means we are at least 3 happy users 🙂

Any idea when the beta phase will be finished?
I'm really impressed that Netgear is providing a security patch for the legacy models - that's good product service and thus sending a good signal out to potential new customers...

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

Hi

I've been running 4.1.15-T3 for a week now with no problems.

It actually cured an issue i was having on my Duo v1. If i installed an add-on, my Duo would freeze and be uncontactable by any means, which meant a factory reset (tried on OS reinstall, didn't work). It would even freeze after installing different firmwares. Tried a few different firmware levels but to no avail, I was just about to post for help when i noticed the beta firmware and thought, why not.

As i say 1 week up and running with add-ons installed no problem.

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

I have no update at this time.

If you need the changes in the beta release I would suggest running the beta firmware. You can downgrade back to e.g. 4.1.14 if you want to.

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

Raidiator 4.1.14 was supposed to fix the Time Machine capacity problem. That is if you have 4 x 2TB drives (the maximum possible) it would allow a Time Machine capacity greater than 2TB. It did not fix this issue.

See the 4.1.14 release notes here - http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/25786/~/raidiator-version-4.1.14-(sparc) they even listed it as item 1!

NetGear Support got a bit sniffy when I logged a support ticket about this because of course these products are well outside warranty.

Is there any likelyhood of 4.1.15 fixing this bug finally?

It's a shame it is not fixed because dedicating an old ReadyNAS to being a Time Machine server is an excellent use for them. I have newer models I use for file server duties.

At the moment it is wasting two-thirds of the available capacity.

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

Hello jelockwood1,

This could be done in the backend. Maybe you can PM mdgm for the commands or steps how to.

Regards,

It's still a bug that has not been fixed despite the claims otherwise in the release notes.

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

No, that's not correct.  TM capacity limitation did not work at all in 4.1.13.  That's what was fixed in 4.1.14.  Capacity limitation on 4.1.x is based on user quotas, which have a hard 2TB limitation.  The potential workaround is to fake the capacity limit based on the number of bands in the share, but that has much more overhead, and thus will never make it into an official 4.1.x release.

Re: Waiting for 4.1.15

Hi,

On my NV+, the 4.1.15-T3 is working well. There's only one bug remaining since many previous firmwares. Sometimes the SNMP service crash. I need to go to interface->System->Alerts and disable SNMP checkbox (I have an error when applying because service is down) and then enable it again.

this workaround works but isn't possible to automaticaly restart de SNMP daemon ?

If you mean a released 4.1.15, I agree.  There's no point to keeping it in never-ending beta.

I have hopefully nudged someone in the right direction to publish the final 4.1 firmware. Fingers crossed 🙂
