ReadyCloud replace my ReadyNAS admin page with a new IP address

Since Monday this week I noticed that my Mac ReadyCloud app, when clicking on the admin page link, takes me to "http://5.29.133.212/admin" WHICH IS REALLY STRANGE SINCE I DID NOT ENTER THAT IP.  The correct IP, on my local network, still is accessible when entered separately.

Is this a security concern? How might this have happened?

No, I think the ReadyCloud link has to assume that you might be remote.

But you could simply bookmark https://nasname/admin or https://nas-ip-address/admin.

Re: ReadyCloud replace my ReadyNAS admin page with a new IP address

ReadyCloud and Remote use (and always have used) 5.x.x.x addresses for its VPN.

Back in the day, those addresses were reserved for "experimental use" so they were safe to use on a private network.  As the internet ran out of IPv4 addresses, they were reclaimed, and are now used as public internet addresses in the Middle East and Europe.  However, Netgear has yet to change the address range they use in ReadyCloud.

There is no security issue (though if you use ReadyCloud, you of course are trusting Netgear to keep it secure).

The impact is that there are some internet websites (any that use 5.x.x.x addresses) that you can no longer reach after you install ReadyCloud.  And if you happened to live in Yakum Israel, you might actually have 5.29.133.212 as your router's IP address - which would really mess you up.

Any idea how to get ReadyCloud's 'Admin Page' link to point to my ReadyNAS instead?

Re: ReadyCloud replace my ReadyNAS admin page with a new IP address

okay, Thanks StephenB.

I have bookmarked my ReadyNAS so that part's fine. It was just weird becuase that link used to point to my own NAS.  Maybe when I accidently upgraded to a version not supported by my OS, and then restored a a previous version from Time Machine, the link got changed.
