ReadyNAS 312 - How to Setup Remote Access from Windows & Mac

Hi,

I have been using ReadyNAS storage servers for a few years. I am having some difficulty setting up Remote access from a Windows & Mac computers. I was doing pretty good with ReadyNAS Remote, but that got changed this year. Here are my issues:

Can someone outline from A to Z the steps to setup remote access (ReadyCloud, I guess is the current system). I have rec's access issues such as I can not edit files (permissions perhaps, files appear to be read-only, although user had full access). Or from the MAC, I can see the share but no files inside folders.

Are the accounts created during the NAS setup, for internal (LAN) use, the same accounts used for Remote Access (ReadyCloud)?

Thanks for your help. If I can understand what is going on and the process to setup, that would help me tremendously.

Thanks,

John

Re: ReadyNAS 312 - How to Setup Remote Access from Windows & Mac

Step 1: Go to http://readycloud.netgear.com, click Sign In, then click the link "Upgrade to a MyNETGEAR Account", in next screen, click "Upgrade your existing ReadyCLOUD Account"

Step 2: Enter your ReadyNAS Remote username/password to start the upgrade, you'll be asked to use email address and password for the new MyNETGEAR account, that will work across the board, like ReadyCLOUD, like my.netgear.com

Step 3: When you do that, your ReadyNAS will be migrated to use the new ReadyCLOUD email/password as well.

Step 4: You can now log into readycloud.netgear.com to see your NAS.

Re: ReadyNAS 312 - How to Setup Remote Access from Windows & Mac

Hi CILLC,

After you upgrade your account to a MyNETGEAR Account which is a email format address, you can download new ReadyCloud App for  Windows & Mac on readycloud.netgear.com to remote access your nases.

1. Use the email format Account login in the readycloud App on Windows & Mac.

2. You will see you nas connected.

3. Click any share you want to access.

4. You can read/write to the share if the user you log in with have need permission. You can set permission for invitee user on readycloud.netgear.com

5. Additionally, Readycloud App on Windows & Mac can also have "Sync with PC" and "Backup PC Folder" menu to backup files on local with remote NAS.

"Sync with PC" is two-way backup.  While "Backup PC Folder" is one-way backup. It just backup local folder to remote NAS, and file/folder in remote NAS cannot backup to local.

Of course, you can still use the old ReadyNAS Remote to access your nases. After you upgrade to MyNETGEAR Account, just login the old ReadyNAS Remote client with your remote username/password to access them.

Hope you enjoy using your ReadyNAS storage.
