ReadyNAS 422 Search only available on Admin?

We have been using the ReadyNAS 422 successfully for our business and recently turned on the Search feature.  It seems that search is only available on the Admin panel when logged in locally.  We would like to have search available for our remote employees who login to the web UI to access the NAS.  Is this feature available?  It would seem to be a pretty basic use case

Running 6.10.8

Thanks,

Andy

Re: ReadyNAS 422 Search only available on Admin?

Hello @andystan

We only have the search option on our Local Admin UI. We do not have the functionality of searching file on the readycloud.netgear.com.

Note : NETGEAR will be terminating ReadyCLOUD service by April 1st, 2023. ReadyCLOUD mobile app, desktop application, and ReadyCLOUD web portal readycloud.netgear.com will all be terminated by April 4th,2023. After that date, you can continue to access locally your ReadyNAS, or access locally the USB drive connected to the routers, but remote access won’t be available.

Have a lovely day,

Re: ReadyNAS 422 Search only available on Admin?

Since ReadyCloud is going down, adding there would make no sense even if Netgear were making real updates to the OS.

But what makes it worse is that Netgear seems to have spent a lot of their effort on the ReadyCloud user interface and not a local one.  Their documentation directed users toward the ReadyCloud interface, even for local access.  But the requirement for the remote server handshake, even for local files or with a fixed IP for remote use, is making that interface completely useless.

Step one is going to be figuring out how you are going to access the NAS remotely without ReadyCloud.  How you do that will determine what options are available for searching, or maybe what search capability is available will influence your remote access choice.  If you choose to use a VPN and SMB file access, the Windows search function (or, I assume, Mac, since I don't have one) works fine, though slow since the NAS won't be indexed.  If you choose FTP, then FileZilla does have a search function (though I'm not sure if it's only in the Pro version now).
