ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

I have a readyNAS RN102 running 6.6.1 firmwhare. My PC is running win 10 and readycloud 1.15. The problem is that i get the VPN disconnected message and i cannot access my drive with readycloud either via internet or LAN.

- I have tried to remove all cloud users and add them again

- I tried removing all users and tried with admin

- I disabled ipv6

- I tried rebooting both the device and the pc

- I tried OS reinstall

- I tried accesing it wit older versions (V1.8)

- It works with Iphone App

ReadyNAS works perfectly on LAN, and Raidar locates it.

Any other suggestions

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

Hello Achelleas,

There is currently a problem with ReadyCloud Windows desktop app connecting to ReadyCloud, ReadyNAS Remote is also affected. The engineering team is already aware of it and getting a fix for it.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

Just a suggestion. When you find you have such a problem have a pop up notice in readycloud site so that we dont try in vain to fix it. It will save a lot of effort and inconvenience (deleting accounts and such). Thank you.

I agree they should post service disruptions in the readycloud portal.  Since they use email addresses as credentials, they could also send an email when there is an extended problem like this one.

Having the service silently go down for days isn't good practice.

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

Hey Eveyone,

I was able to speak with someone at Netgear to see whats going on with the ReadyCloud VPN problem. The guy I spoke with said that this is a wide spread problem with no ETA at the moment. The good news is, they are aware of it and they currently working on it.

I was able to get login using the web portal of Netgear readynas.

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

Hello Achelleas,

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. For the meantime, like JD1 did, I suggest use the ReadyCloud portal to access the shares via ReadyCloud. Engineering is still currently working on it and will announce once it is done.

As for your suggestion, you may also post it at idea exchange board.

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

I am having the same problem today. 3/2/2017  It worked fine yesterday  I am able to connect to a remote NAS using the web browser readycloud interface but I cannot connect to a remote NAS using the desktop readycloud on a PC or MAC or IOS device.

I have no problems connecting to local NAS devices using the desktop readycloud application.

It appears that Netgears VPN servers have gone down again.

The big issue for me is that I cannot log into a remote NAS as a administrator without the desktop readycloud version working.

I hope Netgear gets this working again soon.

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

I think this is a Netgear server issue.

Maybe someday Netgear will respond and get if working again.

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

Well it worked fine for two days. It worked March 4 and March 5.

Now it's back to not working again. I guess it only works on weekends.

I sure wish Netgear could figure out how to fix it for more than just two days in a row.

Re: ReadyNAS online (VPN Disconnected)

Very frustrating that the VPN service is so unreliable. How would a business be successful if they relied on this service?....pretty sad!

NETGEAR...Fix this once and for all so it always works! Flakey VPN service is not acceptable.

I agree.  There are alternatives though, and I suggest that you might want look into them.

So what do you suggest we use rather than ReadyCloud since ReadyCloud is not reliable enough to use.

There must be a non Netgear alternative software out there that actually works?

I can't even get level 2 support at Netgar to admit there is a problem with ReadyCloud.

They claim they havent had reports of it not working.

I guess everyone else has already figured out they need to use non Netgear software to do VPM?

There's more than one use case out there (backup, remote access for yourself, controlled sharing...).  The options for you could also depend on what mix of readynas you have.

Some alternatives (no particular order)

  • OpenVPN
  • ZeroTier
  • OwnCloud
  • FTPs with port forwarding in the router
  • Rsync over SSH (backup only)
  • sync to a cloud service.
  • sync via Resilio

These are all described in the public forum areas.
