ReadyNas damaged during move - "Degraded" data

Hi all! I have a 5 year old Netgear ReadyNas with two 3 TB disks in RAID-1.

I took the 2nd disk out of the drive and packed it with me, so it's not damaged (that I know of). The 1st disk was left in the NAS and the unit was dented (door doesn't open/ close, drives feel lose...

I just plugged it in and all of my data seems OK (I only checked a fraction of it), however the drive is flashing "DEGRADED" and the admin page is saying the status is degraded. What do I do? Can I scan the drive via Netgear or a 3rd party software to check if everything is OK? Thanks in advance.

Are both disks in the NAS now?

When you look at the volume tab, does it say that the NAS is resyncing?

If it is not resyncing, is it showing you which disk it thinks has failed, or is missing?

"Degraded" means it is currently only using one of the two drives -- you have no redundancy.  If you did not re-install the removed drive, that's why.  If you didn't do that initially and powered up, but then did add the second, they are out of sync and need to re-sync.  (So that will be the case if you are just now adding the second.)  If both drives are installed and one does not show at all in the admin GUI, then the SATA backplane may heve been damaged.  Though Netger does sell NAS with installed drives,, so they get shipped that way, I do not recommend shipping with drives installed.  The tray lock is designed primarilly to hold them in and I do not trust that they will preventr them from sliding slightly inward, putting pressure on the backplane, in a handling incident.
