Remote Acces to my Pioneer Pro running 4.2.27 Firmware

What can I do to connect to my ReadyNAS Pioneer Pro running 4.2.27 firmware?

I tried using the newer ReadyCloud but that does not work at all (I assume a firmware incompatibility).

I saw what looked like people forcing an update to the newer firmware on this older system but I am not sure if I am prepared to do that because I have too much data on the device and I have nowhere to store it when I do the update in case it all goes to hell.

Also, when I used readynas remote, the service was spotty at best - it was constantly disconnecting and corrupting even the smallest of files. I run a Mac and i have 50 mbps down / 12 mbps up so speed should not be such a huge issue especially with small files (10 MB and less). Not to mention that it got to a point where i couldn't even connect to my device anymore.

What is the best recommendation to get remote access to the files without getting too complicated? Or do I just have to dump the whole damn thing and buy a new NAS?

ReadyCloud is not supported on your NAS running running 4.2.27 firmware unless you install OS 6 firmware on it.

About ReadyNAS Remote, are you using the latest client software? if not, you can download the latest versions of ReadyNAS Remote Desktop software before the ReadyCloud Client came out on these links below:

Windows: http://www.readynas.com/contributed/mdg ... 6.5.23.exe
Mac: http://www.readynas.com/contributed/mdg ... 1.2.15.pkg

You may also try to access the shares remotely via HTTP: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... /related/1

ReadyCloud is only for units running on OS6. If it was me, I'd go with using OS6 on the Pro. You'll get new features, free replicate, readycloud and expansion.

check this thread as well:

You can of course also access your NAS remotely using FTPS. There are apps for both android and IOS that use that protocol, and of course there are ftp clients for windows and osx.

Check this link below about accessing the shares via FTP or FTPS: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detai ... /related/1

There's also lots of threads on the topic posted here.

The reason to use ftps is that the connection to the NAS is encrypted (similar to using https instead of http). As the article points out, you need to use "explicit" mode. (FileZilla calls it "explicit FTP over TLS"). Implicit mode will fail to connect.

Some apps don't support ftps, so requiring it on the NAS side might not work for you.
