Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives

So 3 days ago, I logged into the ReadyCloud portal just to check on the health of my drives etc. and to check make sure I wasnt running out of space.
Today I try login and.... I cant. Neither can I access my drives on the network. Im essentialy locked out of my own drives now. WTF is going on ?!!
Tried, diffrent browsers (Chrome, safari Firefox) , devices (Windows and Mac and Linux) etc. after I try typing the password in it directs me to thr forgotten password portal, once there I even try following that process and it says those details are not correct, I know for sure that it is becasue I documented and triple checked when I set the device up that they are correct.
Help I need to get to these files on adaily basis, I have backups but there are in the cloud and will take ages to recover.
Faster I can solves this, the less likely I am to resort to that.

Okay , ill try mountiong the old drives on linux and if they are accesable ill just factory reset the NAS and this should hopefully get me up and running quickly.
Will update back if I am succesful or not, thanks all that have replied so far.

Re: Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives
Have you tried logging in directly to the NAS admin ui (not using the ReadyCloud portal)? For instance, https://nas-ip-address/admin.
Also, download RAIDar 6.4 - that will give you some more information on the NAS status. You should also check the LCD panel. https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar

Re: Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives
Yes tried that too, no luck.
RAIDar shows status as healthy and Firmware version 6.2.2 , could that be the issue ?
Do I need to update the Firmware?

It's four years out of date, and it's not compatible with ReadyCloud.
You can't update it in one go, you need to update first to 6.2.5, then to 6.5.2, and finally to 6.9.4. I also suggest doing a factory default procedure when that is done, as there were improvements in performance that require that. Of course you need to back up any files you have on the NAS.
But to do any of this you need to regain access to the NAS. Is this NAS new to you? Were you able to access it before? Do you have files stored on it that aren't backed up?

Re: Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives
Oh dayum
Hmm , my latest files are not backed up but yes I do have a fair chunk of it backed up in the cloud but would take close to a week to restore on my current internet line .
Nah this NAS is probably close to 4 years old , but yes I was able to acces everything until today.
Hypothetically say I pull my drives out, stick in a blank and do a reset, then put the drives back will it read the old drives or are they encrypted ?

You don't want to do that. The OS that is booted is on the drives, not the flash. If you did that. the system would try to update the version on the drives from flash, skipping the necessary intermediate steps in the upgrade, and likely put you in a data recovery situation, whihc I don't think you are in yet.

If I understand you correctly, you are saying
- remove all your drives, labeling by slot
- install a blank disk, and start up (which does a factory install)
- power down and reinsert your original disks in their original slot
- power up
Then all you've done is waste time.
If you updated the firmware to 6.9.4 between steps 2 and 3, then the system would attempt to update the software on the disks, which would violate the guidelines to do it in stages. I think you would risk bricking the NAS.
If restarting the NAS didn't help, then perhaps try an OS reinstall from the boot menu next.

I have done nothing as of yet, but would an OS reinstall format the drives?
Thats what im worried of.
Say I do steps 1 and 2, do the update but dont put my old drives back, can I still my data off and copy it to the new drive via directly plugging it into windows/Linux via a SATA cable ?
Sorry for all the Qs
I rather hash out the hypotheticals , before going ahead, like I said, its mostly the last 2 weeks worth of stuff id lose, the rest will just take a while to recover and put my internet under strain till all those files are recovered.

Re: Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives
I do recommend testing the drives before you go farther. You can connect them to a windows PC (sata or with a usb adapter/dock) and test them with vendor tools (Seatools for Seagate, Lifeguard for Western Digital).
Power down the NAS before you remove the disks, and label them by slot so you return them to the original slot later.

An OS reinstall will not format the drives. The OS is partially reinstalled from the flash memory image. The admin password is reset back to password, the network configuration is reset to the default (DHCP, MTU=1500, etc), and volume quota is disabled. No other settings should be changed, and data should not be lost.
Of course, there is always some risk that something will go wrong. I'm not sure it will help in this case, as we don't really know what is wrong. But it might, and is reasonably safe.

Not sure what plugging the new drive into a linux system accomplishes, since you can't get the data off unless you can mount the old drives.
But if you can plug the old drives into a linux system that has mdadm and btrfs installed, you could try to mount the RAID array, and copy off the data you need.

Always a good idea.
One additional option is to use Netgear Paid Support (my.netgear.com). You'd boot up the NAS into tech support mode, and that would allow them to access the NAS remotely.

Re: Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives
Okay so I checked if the drives where readable on Linux, so have begun copying all the data off.
Now once im done I intend to factory restore the NAS with blank drives,
Do I update the system after I do that?
Would I even be able to acces the Admin portal after I reset seeing as I could because of the frimware version I'm running?
If not how do I update the firmware without being able to acces the Admin portal?
Is there a way to do it via a USB or something ?

Re: Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives
You could try the OS reinstall and see if that works.
If it fails, then the simplest (though brute force) answer is to do a factory reset with one disk in place. Then go through the upgrade process.
When you are up to date, then do a second factory reset with all the disks in place, and then restore the data from the backup.

Re: Unable to login to NAS or even access my drives
Okay so got everything solved and have verified all my data is intact.
Ill just explained what I ended up doing so if anyone esle runs into the same problem.
I pulled all my drives, asseced them on Linux and copied the data off one of the drives to another.
Then formatted that drive and put it into the NAS, then ran a full factory reset.
Ran all the incremental updates and then copied all the rest of the drives back , once they where formatted.
Ill have to rememebr to keep up to date with updates, now and then, that was a mistake on my part.
Thanks all for the help
