Re: User has been Auto deleted - all data lost
I'm away at the moment with limited access to the internet but engineering might have found a way to recover the data.
Please don't run any volume maintenance or make any changes to you volume if possible as these will reduce the chances of partially/fully successful data recovery. If you must access your data still on there for now I would boot to volume read-only mode.
If you can connect a USB HDD (with enough space to hold the deleted data) to your NAS and boot your NAS to tech support mode (a boot menu option), and PM me the 5-digit number you then get and your agreement to http://kb.netgear.com/20932/NETGEAR-Remote-Access-Policy I'll take a look when I'm back.

I wouldn't try 3rd party software just yet.

Re: Cant access my http://readycloud.netgear.com site
So if there is no "backdoor" how was the command sent to delete folders and users on a remote disk?
I am the admin. Oh wait Netgear is the admin. They decide what is on my disk and who gets to see it.
Or maybe it was the Russians?
Good thing I'm just some consumer and not an enterprise admin who has serious resources behind him.
Thanks for your feedback.

Re: User has been Auto deleted - all data lost
That's good news. I turned off the NAS for now, will prepare a USB HDD and go the "tech support" boot menu option way soon.
Doing some online research on btrfs I've found out that walking back some generations may reveal a tree structure that might still contain the deleted home folders. Apart from some log files I doubt that much data has been written since then and that most if not all data remains physically present.
Learning from the trouble I now know that I shouldn't rely on cloud users' home folders anymore.

Once I discovered the problem I turned off my device until I am able to recover my data.

That's a step in the right direction, but what about the time and money it cost us to take care of our customers?

Re: ReadyCloud service went offline and Delete all user accounts and files
You need to expand your time range, because I was affected and my account and files were deleted on March 30th at 6:44 AM CDT or 4:44 AM PDT.

Re: readycloud.netgear.com site and NAS unit offline and Windows app states all units offline
OK so you will be 'reaching out' to users but what can you tell us now?
Some sort of statement from Netgear would be good, have we lost all data?, can the accounts be recreated? etc?

Re: Cant access my http://readycloud.netgear.com site
When can we expect to hear from you 'reaching out'? I've spent 4 hours this morning trying to access my NAS and at the same time this community forum for answers. No wonder it was so hard to get onto the forum.
I am able to login to ReadyCloud, but my NAS is still 'offline'. It is visible on my network but I'm unable to login to it.
- Is the data still there/available?
- Are the user accounts still available?
- When do you expect to contact users?
- When do you expect to have a fix/resolution for this issue?
Thanks,
Simon

Re: Cant access my http://readycloud.netgear.com site
Once the NETGEAR technicians have a solution I have to keep that machine turned off. I"ll need their assistance for data recovery...
I've had daily snapshots for the user folders but this wipe killed them as well. I looked up information about btrfs-find-root and btrfs restore, thinking that using an older generation root might find the directories I'm missing and allow them to copy the lost data on a USB drive. The commands were too complicated for me.
