Why is Readycloud remote not https?
Subject asks the question. Why does ReadyCloud not connect to a secure server?

Re: Why is Readycloud remote not https?
Perfectly valid question! Thank you for creating the awareness.
While http://readycloud.netgear.com/ can be manually forced to use https://readycloud.netgear.com/ - taking the fact that one does echange credentials, the channel should be secured automatically - once logged in it does change to http://readycloud.netgear.com/client/index.html#page=access ... a manual override is not possible.
Are the kids playing again with the cloud infrastructure @ChristineT? Would make sense to move this thread to the ReadyCloud forum section btw.
@johngm what is going on here again on a Netgear Business platform please? Thank you for taking control.
Regards,
-Kurt

Well, its the way it is for now - however this can't be considered resolved. Even complex Web App environments must be workable with a https front end.

I agree. For many businesses, HTTP is a non-starter, no matter what assurances are given about the back end. Consumers might be more tolerant at the moment, but I don't think that will last.
It seems to me that it would be possible to segment the ReadyCloud frontend so that it uses only HTTPS with ReadyNAS (and higher-end Nighthawks).

Re: Why is Readycloud remote not https?
FWIW: I think the argumentation ref. the platform performance limitation on some routers is between strange and simply wrong. When we look into the portal Web code, indeed all calls to the cloud back-end are https, only the front end is http. The ReadyCloud connection to the cloud is kind of a VPN tunnel, secured and encrypted - and it's not https.
