What firmware are you running on the NAS?
What operating system is running on the server?
Any preference on what backup protocol you'd like to use?

Re: setup readynas rnd 2000 v2 for backup
RAIDiator 4.1.16 [1.00a043]
Windows server 2012 standard 64 bit
i want to use the standard backup option that the rnd2000 v2 gives without using a third party application

Ok. You actually have a duo v1 (sparc based NAS). Though it might say v2 on the label on the back, we call it a v1 here. That reduces confusion between your NAS and the duo v2 (which is an arm based NAS).

Then you will need to use the Windows backup job in the NAS for each folder in the server that you want to back up. That folder will need to be set up as a shared folder on the server. You will also need to make sure that the SMB 1.0 protocol is enabled on the server, since that's the only SMB version that your rather old NAS supports.
