Allow maintenance tasks like defrag, balance and scrub to be executed more flexible
As maintenance in some cases can take a very long time (find example of a scrub lasting 8 days here https://community.netgear.com/t5/Community-Add-ons/ReadyNAS-314-Length-of-Scrub-Maintenance/m-p/1649...), I would like to suggest a change to the OS as follows:
When kicking off maintenance tasks like defrag, balance and scrub the admin should be able to tell the system how much resources to use for the effort.
High priority: The maintenance is conducted with nearly all available resources and virtually nothing else can be done until this is finished.
Medium priority: Resources are assigned to the maintenance task in way that normal operations can continue, though performance is degraded in a recognizable way.
Low priority: The maintenance task is running in the background and normal operations are virtually not affected.
Maintenance tasks could be paused and resumed according to a time table. You might kick off a scrub on Friday night local time and let it run until early monday morning. Then pause it during business hours that day and resume in the late evening. Continue in the same way during the next workdays until the job is done.
Combine example 1 and 2 into one solution.
