Greater expansion capability via the UI in FlexRAID mode.
I've done a lot of experimenting with expanding a FlexRAID volume via SSH commands and have found a lot more is possible that is offered in the UI (see:How-to-do-incremental-vertical-expansion-in-FlexRAID-mode-using-SSN). I'd like to see Netgear offer an advanced option for the Volumes page that allows much of what I have done without havng to utilize SSH.
I picture the interface looking a lot like the Windows Disk Manager -- illustrations of the drives, partitions, and volume segments. Selecting an unallocated section of a drive would then allow you to the select an option to create a partition. Selecting one or more empty partitions would allow you to create a new RAID group. Selecting an appropriately sized empty partition together with a set of used ones would allow the empty one to be joined with the others. Selecting a single unused RAID group would allow you to create a separate volume on it, and selecting a used and unused RAID group would allow you to join them in a single volume.
Even better, allow selections to do multiple things. Selecting two unallocated drive segments could allow selection of new volume and selecting unallocated and one used ones together could offer to add the new ones to the old volume, thus keeping the user from having to insure the partitions are of the right size to move forward with the other steps.
There will need to be some warnings about doing things that are hard to move forward from, either real time or in proper documentation. For example, adding a 1TB drive to join together with the unused 1TB of a 3TB drive that's already in a in RAID with a 2TB is probably a bad idea, though it will work.
