Re: ReadyNAS-4200v2

It is very odd that volume access would be unavailable during a re-sync on a 4200V2.  The 4-core Xeon processor should not get too bogged down by that.  It may be an indication that there is an issue with one of the other drives.

What does RAIDar report?  Are drive activity lights showing a lot of activity?  How many drives make up the array?  Re-sync of a 12-drive array can take a while.  But once it does complete, I would expect your access to return.

By "RAID 5+1", do you mean RAID 5 with one spare?  If so, the spare should have been automatically used to start the re-sync, and the replacement should just end up as the new spare..

Re: ReadyNAS-4200v2

Hi Sandshark ,

Thanks and Noted , We have using RAID 5+1",  RAID 5 with one spare . In Array there is 6 volumes . Yes , As per LOG indicate Spare volumes has ATA errors .

Can we change volumes 4 (Spare) also .

If we change volume 1 with new one then RAID is not shown in dashboard ,it refelect configure RAID . when we attached old volumes1 and replace volume 4(spare) then RAID shown in dashboard , and re-sync  process start after 10-15 min access to volume is disable .

Please guide us .

Re: ReadyNAS-4200v2

You cannot pull drives and re-insert them and have the volume stay in sync.  If you have been doing that, you may well have made the situation worse.  I'm not fully following what you have done to tell if you have done that.  You should probably contact Netgear support before you lose everything (if you've not already).  If you'd like the forum to still try and help, please organize your thoughts into a step-by-step map of what you did.

Example:

Started with 6 drives in slots 1-6, drives 1-5 (sizes?) in RAID 5 and 6 (size?) as a spare.

Noted error messages regarding drive X.

Hot pulled (or powered down and pulled) drive X, replacing with a (size) new drive.

System reported start of resync.

And so on.

I updated my 4200V2 to OS6 some time ago, and have no remaining OS4.2.x systems, so sombody else may need to speak to specifics of what you can try.  BTW, since Netgear will deny support to a legacy system updated to OS6, you probably shouldn't do the same since keeping access to paid support sounds like it's in your best interest.
