I would recommend you schedule volume maintenance such as defrag and balance.

Re: ReadyNAS OS 6.1.9 | Run on existing x86 (4.2) #notsuppor
If I follow the wiki guide to get the R4toR6_6.2.3.bin file, I do not end up with same headers as mdgm posted files
I need rather to use this:
root@ubuntu:~/Desktop/tmp# head -n1 ReadyNASOS-6.2.3-x86_64.img info::name=ReadyNASOS,version=6.2.3,time=1429136985,size=57862144,md5sum=15a33ffa11d28a5f5ea1fa87f8ac208d,arch=x86_64,descr=ReadyNASOS
root@ubuntu:~/Desktop/tmp# echo -n -e 'info::name=RAIDiator-x86,version=4.2-6.2.3,time=1429136985,size=57862144,md5sum=15a33ffa11d28a5f5ea1fa87f8ac208d,arch=x86,descr=ReadyNASOS\n\n' > newhead
root@ubuntu:~/Desktop/tmp# dd if=newhead of=ReadyNASOS-6.2.3-x86_64.img conv=notrunc
0+1 records in
0+1 records out
140 bytes (140 B) copied, 0.000137043 s, 1.0 MB/s
Notice theses changes:
name=RAIDiator-x86
version=4.2-6.2.3
descr=ReadyNASOS\n\n
-e command on echo
What is the most proper way to get a correct header? This method or the method detailed in wiki and shown in my above post?

The headers I use I have found to work reliably.

Re: ReadyNAS OS 6.1.9 | Run on existing x86 (4.2) #notsupported
Hello,
The procedure says it will return to Factory Default.
Only for the Settings or will it also erase all the data on disks?

Switching from OS4 to OS6 will destroy your data, not just settings.

Ouch!
Well, I have another NAS that I could use to swap the data while doing this upgrade from OS4 to OS6, but that means so much work and hassle.
So my question is why would I do that?
I mean can you give me like the 2 top reasons why I should do the upgrade.

I'm not sure you should do it actually. My pro-6 is still running 4.2.x. OS6 on legacy ReadyNAS is unsupported by Netgear, which is one reason not to.
-if you have reached the 16 TiB volume ceiling (or the 8 TiB volume growth limit), then you need to do a factory reset anyway. OS6 doesn't have those capacity limits, so it is worth considering if you are in that position.
-If you want some of the OS6 features (such as built-in antivirus, continued use of ReadyCloud, BTRFS file system, or maybe some of the apps) then it is also worth considering.

Re: ReadyNAS OS 6.1.9 | Run on existing x86 (4.2) #notsupported
Hi,
Sorry to revive an old thread, I have just taken the plunge and updated my Pro Pioneer Edition using the 'PREP4TOR6_0.1-x86.bin' & 'R4toR6_latest.bin' files downloaded on the 27th August. Nearly everything is working perfectly but I do have 1 question & 1 problem.
Question, by NAS shows it's running 6.3.5 - Is that correct? As the Pro Pioneer is an x86 based machine I would have expected 6.2.4 at best?
Problem, I am unable to logon to Vault. I keep getting a 'Vault Login Failed' error. (everything works if I logon via browser - so my account is ok)
I know there has been a recent (20th July 2015) update to Vault to v2.9.23 which I had carried out prior to upgrading (i.e. whlst on FrontView 4.x) so am wondering if this could be the issue - however, I have tried installing the package from http://www.readynasvault.com/update/ but it keeps failing to install.
Can you help?
cheers,
Adrian

Re: ReadyNAS OS 6.1.9 | Run on existing x86 (4.2) #notsupported
All of my legacy systems are running 6.2.4, which reports to be the latest available version. So I don't know how you could actually be running 6.3.5. Where is this reported, in Frontview, RAIDar, or both?

Note this thread: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/OS6-upgrade-question-on-legacy-Pro-6/m-p/979096...
6.3.5 (beta rc2) can be installed on the legacy x86 NAS.
