ReadyNAS Pro BIOS upgrade links down

I moved my ReadyNAS Pro to OS6 some time ago without doing the BIOS upgrade, I now want to upgrade the CPU but the links appear to be down for the BIOS

http://www.readynas.com/download/addons/x86/4.2/BIOS_Update_Package_0.5-x86.bin is no longer working. Is there a new link for the BIOS?

Re: ReadyNAS Pro BIOS upgrade links down

It didn't work for me if I clicked on it, but did if I copied it to the address bar of a new tab.

The BIOS update package does only work with OS4.2.x.  You can find instructions for extracting the BIOS and performing the update manually in OS6, but it's often easier to just pull the drives, put in just one spare drive, use that to downgrade back to 4.2.x, install the BIOS upodate, then update back to OS6 (still on the scratch drive), then put the original drives back in.

The link works. If your browser doesn't automatically redirect to https manually change the link to a https one and try again.

Re: ReadyNAS Pro BIOS upgrade links down

Thanks it worked and I now have it.

I have removed the drives and replaced with scratch drive for the update and I was manually updating whilst SSH as root to the NAS in OS6 to update than reverting back to OS 4.2.x.

I now have the file and will continue with the OS6 update and let you know how it goes, I can always revert back to OS 4.2.x if I cant get it done within OS6 🙂

Thanks @Sandshark

Re: ReadyNAS Pro BIOS upgrade links down

You can extract the contents of the add-on and install flashrom using apt-get and use that. The command is a little different on OS6 and you need to of course make sure to choose the right BIOS ROM to flash. Still much easier than upgrading the BIOS on the systems that shipped with OS6.

Re: ReadyNAS Pro BIOS upgrade links down

Thanks all done .... ROM now reporting 07/26/20 FLAME6-MB V2.0 ... CPU and Memory upgrades next and then all I have to do is replace the scratch disks with the 6x4TB disks I removed to protect my files without causing any problems.

I researched several posts on this forum but ended up following this process from this link -

https://www.admin-enclave.com/en/articles/linux/484-upgrade-the-bios-from-an-readynas-device.html

worked very well once I had access to the BIOS file(s) but yes you are right you need to know which one to choose for your ReadyNAS.
