🙂 Glad to hear. I'm still using my VM as my daily system, with a laptop being a "thin client" to it, works great.

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

Chirpa, I used your instructions to load my VM up at startup. But it doesn't seem to be working. The script is fine coz I can load it that way. Any ideas? Windows 7 seems to be working a treat on it, so appreciate the thread a lot.

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

Referring to this?

I will need to test it out. The script works manually, so its probably a path/environment when running it from the automated system control.

yeah that's the one. Any logs I can check? Other than that it works great. Got my 4GB upgrade for me PRO, and I'll pop an Win 2K3 server on there as well.

On the VBox lines, try adding "> /tmp/vbox.log" and see what it outputs.

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

I have been following the instructions in the first post but get the following dependency errors:

# apt-get update && apt-get install build-essential

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
build-essential: Depends: libc6-dev but it is not going to be installed or
libc-dev
Depends: g++ (>= 4:4.1.1) but it is not going to be installed

# apt-get install libc6-dev

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libc6-dev: Depends: libc6 (= 2.7-18) but 2.3.6.ds1-13etch9+b1 is to be installed
Depends: linux-libc-dev but it is not installable

I am running firmware 4.2.5. Any ideas how I fix this? Thanks.

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

hello,

I'm trying to install Virtualbox on a NVX but I've a problem at the end of this command :

# apt-get install virtualbox-3.0

I've this message in vbox-install.log

** Compiling vboxdrv
Makefile:150: Warning: using /usr/src/linux as the source directory of your Linux kernel. If this is not correct, specify KERN_DIR=<directory> and run Make again.
Makefile:158: *** Error: /usr/src/linux (version 2.6.27.6.RNx86.2.1) does not match the current kernel (version 2.6.27.6.RNx86.1.1). Stop.

I've the 4.2.5 firmware and I use 4.2.5 sources

I follow Chirpa's instructions......

Anyone have an idea?

Thx

# chmod +x VirtualBox-3.0.4-50677-Linux_x86.run

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

Copy the defconfig as noted in my other thread. Then do a 'make clean;make all' in the kernel sources, then try installing VirtualBox again. Should work.

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

same thing

here is exactly what I've done :
# echo "deb http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian etch non-free" >> /etc/apt/sources.list
# wget -q http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/sun_vbox.asc -O- | apt-key add -
# apt-get update && apt-get install build-essential
# wget -q http://www.readynas.com/download/GPL/RNDP6xxx_4.2.5_WW_src.zip
# unzip -q RNDP6xxx_4.2.5_WW_src.zip -d ./GPL
# cd GPL/linux-x86-2.6/
# cp arch/x86/configs/tolapai_defconfig arch/x86/configs/i386_defconfig
# make menuconfig (I do this otherwise I've this error : (missing kernel .config file))
# make clean;make all
# ln -s /c/backup/GPL/linux-x86-2.6/ /usr/src/linux
# KERN_DIR=/usr/src/linux
# wget http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/3.0.4/VirtualBox-3.0.4-50677-Linux_x86.run
# chmod +x VirtualBox-3.0.4-50677-Linux_x86.run
# ./VirtualBox-3.0.4-50677-Linux_x86.run

during vbox install I've this message :

Python found: python, installing bindings...
/bin/bash: python: command not found

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

I'll try and do a quick setup of it on an NVX in the office, and get back to you.

Last tried it on an NVX back in ~March with 4.2.4 (viewtopic.php?f=52&t=26922). Will give it a try with 4.2.5 in the next few days.

Re: Running VirtualBox VM host on ReadyNAS Pro

thx Chirpa,

with the topic concerning NVx, it works.

I replace the

cp arch/x86/configs/tolapai_defconfig arch/x86/configs/i386_defconfig

by

cp arch/x86/configs/tolapai_Makefile Makefile
cp arch/x86/configs/tolapai_defconfig .config

perhpas you could merge it with this one.

but thx a lot for your great help
