Dropbox add-on for Ultra6 linked but not syncing
We have a ReadyNAS Ultra 6 (loaded with four 2TB drives in RAID5 and containing about 1.1TB of data) that we recently updated to firmware 4.2.27. We installed the Dropbox add-on from rnxtras.com and it shows to be version 3.4.3. Unfortunately, after following the configuration instructions, everything seems to be connected/linked, but no files are transferring.
The instructions we followed:
https://rnxtras.com/add-on-configuration/dropbox-configuration-readynas-4-x86
We have Dropbox for Business, under which we have three accounts, and when we clicked the blue link icon next to Global Dropbox, we logged into the dropbox site using the account to which we want to backup our NAS (artifacts@). Our NAS only has one user (presumably the admin, although it is called "school" in the Personal Dropboxes list). We are not sure what its home directory is, or if it really has one.
The Global Dropox shows a green light for enabled, but still the blue link icon as well.
The "school" user under Personal Dropboxes shows two green lights for running and linked.
When I look at our artifacts@ user account in Dropbox, it shows our NAS as being a linked device. BUT, no files seem to be moving anywhere.
As instructed, we created the /Dropbox Share folder (but did not enable public access, afraid that meant the whole world could access it). Are we supposed to move everything we want to backup to Dropbox into that folder? Should we have enabled the public access? Why don't we have two green lights next to Global Dropbox the way the instructions page shows?
Thanks for any assistance.

Re: Dropbox add-on for Ultra6 linked but not syncing
Without screenshots it's hard to tell what exactly you did wrong, but it seems you misinterpreted the instructions a few times.
In that case, the (global) Dropbox running under the admin account should show two green lights. Since it doesn't, it most likely isn't linked to any Dropbox account. You can verify this by clicking the blue link icon. If it displays a link, the Dropbox isn't linked.
As mentioned in the instructions, the global Dropbox is always linked to the admin user account which is different from user accounts you create on the NAS since it is the global management account and can't be edited or changed by the owner of the ReadyNAS. The "only" user you are referring to is one you created and the Dropbox of whom can't be used as a share (as stated in the instructions).
This most likely means that you didn't link the global Dropbox account (which probably is what you wanted) but the "school" account instead. Now, if you're looking at the shares and especially the "Dropbox" one, you won't see any transfers for the "Dropbox" share is the one of the global account and since that one isn't linked there are no transfers. I suspect that if you connect to the NAS using the "school" account, you'd find a Dropbox folder within the account's "home share" (most likely named "school") and this will have the files you're looking for.
"public access" in ReadyNAS terminology means "everyone on the network, even users with just guest access".
Once the link of the Global Dropbox to your Dropbox account is working, that would be the idea, yes.
Not necessarily, no. But you should make sure that the share is owned by the "admin" user and that every access is done as that user. These settings can be found under the "Shares" tab on the ReadyNAS.
Most likely because you didn't link the share with any Dropbox account. A second possibility would be that you're using an incompatible browser but since the other share is showing the two green lights that seems unlikely.

Re: Dropbox add-on for Ultra6 linked but not syncing
Okay, we disabled Dropbox for both the user and global, re-enabled it again (only for the global) and re-linked. Then we copied about 1TB of data into the /Dropbox folder and syncing started. Looking at the account on Dropbox, it appears that all the folders were created, but only about 600 files have been transferred (3.5GB). It does appear to be making progress, only it's going VERY slowly (less than 1.5GB/hour). At this rate, it will take a month to upload our data.
https://www.dropbox.com/help/39?path=manage_account
The Dropbox website says this can happen when uploading more than 300,000 files (which we may be), that a fix is in the works, and that we should make sure we are running the latest version of the desktop app. Obviously, we are not using the desktop app, but the ReadyNAS add-on. I see a button on the Dropbox Add-on configuration page that says "Enable Auto Update". Is this the NAS equivalent of updating the desktop app? Will enabling it incorporate the speed fix when Dropbox updates the desktop app? Are there any "cons" to enabling auto-update, or permissions that need to be enabled so it can work?
Also, will the NAS Dropbox Add-on tell us when syncing is complete somehow?
Thanks.

Re: Dropbox add-on for Ultra6 linked but not syncing
Since you're on ReadyNAS OS4, the app will *not* tell you it's current state and thus won't tell you when syncing is finished (I'm working on that though). As for the "Enable Auto Update" feature: This isn't very realiable for Dropbox doesn't seem to offer automated updates as regularly as they release new versions. But you can always check the "Current Stable Version" and if it's newer than the version currently running on your ReadyNAS, you can do a manual upgrade. The same is true for the the testing versions, but opposed as to the stable versions there may be no easy downgrade path back to a stable release.

Re: Dropbox add-on for Ultra6 linked but not syncing
Looks like we're .1 version behind. Can it update to the latest stable version while it is syncing, or do we need to wait (a month) for that to finish?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Dropbox add-on for Ultra6 linked but not syncing
You can upgrade any time you like, Dropbox should pick up where it was interrupted.
