ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

I have just Installed a new ReadyNas NV+ V2 box and Radiator 5.3.5 on my Home network. It is sitting on my network behind a Netgear ADSL combined switch.

I am a new user and not very technical.

I Can see everything on the box from my home network, all working ok here, even My PS3 can see streamed files from the ReadyNas....BUT

I can't access any files from my work PC...

1 I setup READYNAS on home network for user "fred" to have read/write access to share "music" and "fred" to have remote access

2. I setup and login to readyNas remote (user name eg "fred") on a work PC, it say its logged in ok and online

3. On WorkPC select connect to ReadyNas but it says my network is not responding.

4 Cant see any file from Ipad either

My ReadyNas at home is now sitting on my network with no PC attached

I suspect the problem is at ReadyNas end but not sure what to check??

ALSO

Step 2 on the READYNAS site < http://www.readynas.com/?p=1435 >

says enter an email address of user you are trying to add as remote...BUT the example shows a USERNAME being entered not an email address????? It won't accept Remote user names set up just email addresses. but i have setup "fred" for remote here ok

Any suggestion Please..

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

After those instructions were written Remote was changed. You select the email and click Find. You then see a list of users registered to that email address under Found. You then add them to the Allowed list and click Apply.

If you setup ReadyNAS Remote on a PC at home (just to help isolate the cause of the issue) does it work there?

Are you able to try from another Remote location? Do you have a corporate firewall or proxy at work?

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

Thanks for your reply.

I have added the registered user to the allowed list.

I will look at this tonight when i get home..(If you setup ReadyNAS Remote on a PC at home (just to help isolate the cause of the issue) does it work there?)

We do have a corporate firewall at work.

I cant see and files from my Iphone app though.

I have installed Remote on a laptop at home and it works OK fine.

Still does not work with ipad or iphone at home, can log on and see folders but when i try to access contents of folders it says ERROR, but i would like to get the work problem sorted first.

Still does not work from Work.

What do i need to ask Admin at work about their network??

Is there anything i need to do with my NETGEAR ROUTER DG834??

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

Ok its now 2 weeks since having this box and still cant remote to it.

My laptop remotes to it from within my network ok but have tried several remote wifi locations and cont connect to it.

The only thing that can now be stopping it is my NETGEAR ROUTER DG834??

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

Is the Leaf vpn adapter installed on your laptop?

To check this, open a DOS window and type ipconfig. If it is there, what IP address is assigned to it?

Have you opened a support case? If not, you may wish to do so and see if they have some additional suggestions. Post your case number.

It could be an issue with the laptop install (which is why I suggested verifying that the leaf VPN adapter is properly installed).

Thanks...

Not very technical but on both laptop and work pc ipconfig show nothing about a leaf.

It just says
local ip address stuff and..
"Ethernet adapter local area Connection 3"
"media state....media disconnected"

Work admin say there is nothing on their network that would block access and i can gogin to readynas remote ok on both machines.

Can't access with ipad or iphone either.

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

Then it sounds like you might have an installation issue on the PC. Support should be able to figure it out.

ipad/iphone works differently I think (I use Android myself).

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

When you run ipconfig from command prompt you should see this if its installed correctly

Ethernet adapter Leaf Networks Adapter:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : xxxx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx%xx
Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

Do you have FTP enabled on the NAS? Think I had to enable FTP to get Remote to work on my Android phone. Don't think it'll fix your laptop problem but might fix the ipad/iphone. I had to uninstall and reinstall Remote on my work PC once or twice to finally get it working right.

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

That should have been installed when you installed Readynas Remote on the PC.

What operating system are you running?

OK getting a little further on but still can’t access files remotely. 2 Problems remain.

I removed and re-installed the ReadyNas Remote at work, this time the Leaf Network was there.

I can now see all the folders that are at home on the ReadyNas box but when I try to access the folder contents I get the following dialog box up saying…

<Folder not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource> Is this something from the work network or my Nas box??

Second problem, when the leaf network adapter is installed and running my whole PC at work grinds to a halt and it can take up to 5 minutes to access a file on the internal work network. If I them remove ReadyNas remote my system speeds back to normal when the leaf adapter is removed.

Re: ReadyNas Remote Access Problems

FYI I thought I saw that you wanted to use your phone to connect to readynas remote and didn't think I saw the recommendation to turn on ftp "serivices->standard file protocols" and on the share you want to see on the phone, set users and or groups you want to connect by ftp (especially your username from the nas) though you do have to do the share setup for each you want to see.

hope this help there.

Thanks.. Got 2 separate issues with my box.

1. Access from Remote PC's which is still not resolved
2. Access from Ipad and iphone see below

My Iphone can now access my box remotely BUT i see all the LINUX folders like bin, boot, dev etc, i can see all the files in thoes folders as well.
HOWEVER i can also see my NAS folder I created but when I try to access them it says "no such file or directory" I have enabled all services on certain folders
