Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
I'm on /replicate.readynas.com and I'm tryin to 'Backup System' from a Readynas 102 to a Readynas 316 but in the wizard I have error:
Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
I did enabled: Replicate and even Cloud and even Remote, and even rebooted! ..error is the same
Tryed to search the Replicate Help, but I only see the old one from 2010 !
Tryed to search the forum...nobody's talking about replicate with new NAS
Please help

Re: Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
I have received the same error message and contacted support. They are telling me that the "Backup System" Feature is not supported yet I pointed them to the user manual for replicate; document number 202-10774-03 dated July 2013 where it does state it is supported. They also say there is no ETA as to when this will be supported.
Anyone have any ideas as to workarounds - I was looking to do a "Backup Data" instead but that does not support the home directories (per support) because of the new permissions on the home directories...
Assistance, Thoughts or comments?

Re: Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
If the NAS and the backup server are on the same network, you can use a group of frontview backup jobs.
For instance, one backup job for each shared folder, and one backup job for the "home" directories. It is harder to restore the "home" directories, because there is no one-step recovery mode. You can restore them, it is just annoying because there are multiple steps.

Re: Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
Seriously!?!?!? I did a lot of research to find a NAS specifically for offsite backup synchronization. I made my choice based on the online user manual dated July 2013. I had my client purchase two ReadyNas 314 units. I'm in the midst of trying to set this up. I have run into the same error. Now I'm finding out it doesn't work!!! I certainly hope this isn't the case. Netgear is going to make me look like a complete moron if it is. After getting this to work at this client site, I had intended on rolling out this setup for all of my clients. I'm going to get on the horn with Netgear. If anyone has any solutions to this issue, I would greatly appreciate the input.

Re: Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'. Ad me to the list of those who want this capability as soon as practicable. OS6 and ReadyCLOUD are excellent. Full System Replicate is a great time saver and that is what we expect.

Re: Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
This “Backup System” option is only for the older ReadyNAS units and not needed for the new platforms. It is still present in the application for legacy support. If
you want to backup the entire system, create a job and select the volume you want to back up.
Thanks,
-Leia

Re: Source device doesn't support 'Backup System'
Trying to backup to the cloud and getting this error. Quite frustrating. Are there any guidelines on how to do this?

I know this is a bit of an old thread, but did you ever find out a way to replicate your NAS?
Much like you, I did a lot of research and even called netgear to make sure I can replicate two devices, so the offsite copy is identical with the same folder structure. I was told by netgear that I am able to do that. Well after I got a 2nd unit (readynas 2120) I was unable to configure it. I just called netgear and they told me that replicate is no longer possible and I can do a backup. This however creates additional backup folders within a folder, so it is not an identical copy. If anyone has figured out a solution for this, let me know.
Thanks!
