I've posted a new version 0.03 based on Transmission v.2.76.

Build version changes:

Version 0.03

• Fixed stop.sh script to shutdown Transmission correctly and allow it to save changes to settings.json. (Thanks Gray75)

Version 0.02

• Fixed FTP access problem with proftpd crash by setting correct permissions on /var/log, also moved Transmission log to /var/log/transmission/transmission.log. (Thanks Torry)


• Added logrotate.d config for Transmission log files maintenance.


• Put a link to Transmission's web interface URL on Add-on Manager page. The Add-on Manager page is automatically reconfigured on start of Transmission to reflect changes in IP address of the ReadyNAS and/or Transmission web interface port (9091 by default).

Version 0.01

• Initial release.

Before installing this version please remove any other builds of Transmission (those not made by me). But you can keep previous version of my build, this version should upgrade it.

EDIT: A couple of questions prefetch-enabled and utp-enabled are both set to false in the settings. Any reason we should avoid enabling them? Stability issues perhaps?

Ok some, info on my Duo V2: it is a single disk device and I have not installed XRAID at all. Plain JBOD here.

I made various tests, downloading in all cases the exact same torrent on the Readynas and then deleting it afterwords: http://ca.isohunt.com/download/453683906/anime.torrent

You can see that there are radically different results, depending on the torrent client and preallocation setting.

Finally, running ctorrent (downloaded with apt-get install ctorrent) with the -a (for preallocate) option produced a single file having two extents only! ctorrent was the only case whereas the file was allocated entirely in advance.

Like I said, I have transmission running on a pop corn hour, with preallocate set to 2 and even though it somewhat freezes when starting a new file, everything works perfect afterwards. Fragmentation is kept to a minimum even if multi file downloads take place. I wonder if transmission could be patched here to zero all space, when a preallocation value of "2" ("Full") is given. Any chance you could try and produce a version with the POSIX_FALLOCATE function "killed" for that purpose?

And another request: I am mostly accessing my netgear over the internet with SSH. Would you please consider adding transmision-remote and/or transmission-remote-cli to your package? I don't need fancy stuff, even transmission-remote would suffice 🙂

thank you for your detailed input.

"prefetch-enabled" and "utp-enabled" config parameters were set to default values and I did not change them.

I'll try to get more info about POSIX_FALLOCATE function and maybe try to disable it, if possible.
But from my point of view, if you are not copying/deleting/moving files on your NAS very often, fragmentation should not be an issue. I would not bother about it at all. 🙂

Your request on including transmission-remote client is accepted, I will include it in next build.

IIRC, when running configure, a file should be created that shows the values of the configure values, one per line like POSIX_FALLOCATE=1. Can you please paste here this file? I am very curious on the functions supported by the box.

not sure why, but all the settings e.g. speed limit and download directory do disappear every now and then, and it always goes back to the default.
