Transmission and proxies (BTGuard)
Transmission has support for proxies and I would like to use that feature. Have a ReadyNAS Duo. I've signed up for an account at BTGuard and I've filled in the required fields in the settings file for Transmission. I does not work however. I have the Readynas on a local IP address behind my router. Are there any addional things that I need to do to get the proxy feature running? Like, for example, forward the port that BTGuard uses to the Readynas, install a SSH add on on the Readynas, etc?
The wierd thing is that even though I've enabled the use of the proxy functionality, downloading torrents still works as before (that is, my usual non-proxy IP address shows).
I did disable the Transmission service while I edited the settings file, which I did in gedit from an Ubuntu box.
Would appreciate any suggestions, or reports from those who have used a proxy service for their Readynas, especially BTGuard.
Are there any logs from the SSH login? Couldn't find any.

- Dr_StrangeloveAspirantThat was bad news. Is there any other way of using a proxy directly from the Readynas? I'm really guessing here but maybe by installing a SSH add-on in the Readynas and connecting it to the proxy service I mentioned?

Unfortunately, no.This is very annoying since I now need to run the bittorrent client in my laptop instead. It so convenient to use to torrent client in the ReadyNAS. - kongolavAspirantI downgraded into the old transmission version that supported proxy and set it up and it has been running for well.. like two years. But for some reason I upgraded the firmware of my NV+ just the other day - and now I can`t access the transmission interface anymore. I can start it in the readynas interface just as before - and it seems to be working, but it never really manages to start it. I`ve downgraded to the old readynas firmware again now, but it still does`nt work.
It`s probably just a minor error somewhere - but I can`t find it - so if anybody else have an idea - I`d be very happy to hear it! :)
(If it ain`t broke - don`t fix it.) - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTry installing Transmission over the top of itself.
- kongolavAspirantAha, that sounds like it`s worth a shot. But is there a way to take a backup of my current "setup" with torrents seeding before I do that?
And should I uninstall transmission first, or as you said... just do it over the old one?
(thanks for the quick reply!) - cclambieAspirantWhen I have installed Transmission over the top of itself in the past, the currently downloading torrents have stayed in place, no guarantees, but usually works.
