516 smb problems after upgrade to 6.6.1
Yesterday I did the 6.6.1 upgrade now each time the workload rises up it it is not more possible to establish new smb/cifs connection and existing connection are interrupted. For example, on unrar is enough, the load average rises to 5 and the wa to 30.
When the workload is reduced the existing connections work again, but it is still nit possible to establish new smb/cifs connection. Only a reboot makes it work again. Since yesterday I had to reboot two times!
Nfs connections are not affected.

Try to switch off AV, if not already done.

The caveats are all listed in the post that has the link to the beta. I didn't see any reason to repeat them.
Also, if something goes wrong with the beta firmware, Netgear development will often troubleshoot it - they are looking for bugs that need fixing after all.

@StephenB I know it but that is to warn people, because sometimes when it goes south they are complaining!
The disclaimers in the beta download post speak for themselves - paraphrasing them in other posts can create more confusion than help.

Re: 516 smb problems after upgrade to 6.6.1
If not already done, try to install the app "SMB plus" and set the parameters as follows
SMB Version -> SMB3
Oplocks -> disable
Preallocate -> enable
Hide unreadable -> disable
Hide unwriteable -> disable
Restrict anonymous -> disable
SMD encrypt -> auto
SMB signing -> disabled
Good luck 🙂
The app is running fine on one of my NAS (RN104) since beginning of 2014 and seems also not to misbehave under fw 6.6.1

Re: 516 smb problems after upgrade to 6.6.1
Is has happened again...
...every other update of the firmware breaks the UPS connection (APC SmartUPS)
I upgraded from 6.6.0 to 6.6.1 as per recommendations.
Ever since I started to get the "UPS Communications Error". In the logs, when I unplugged the UPS and plugged it back in the S/N changed. It seems to do this whenever the UPS connection breaks.
I am not sure why it is alternating between fixed and broken based on releases but it is truly frustrating.

Re: 516 smb problems after upgrade to 6.6.1
Hi pmk,
It might be best if you could send your system logs. I would request for it to be checked.
How do I send all logs to ReadyNAS Community moderators?
Regards,

There are fixes in 6.7.0 for the UPS problems (the underlying cause is that there were new USB libraries installed as part of the kernel updates in 6.6.1).
So try updating to 6.7.0 first. If you still see the problem after the update, I suggest PMing @Skywalker

Re: 516 smb problems after upgrade to 6.6.1
Hi,
6.7.0 seems to have fixed the problem - although you have to reboot with the UPS attached for it to work.
If I unplug the ups and plug it back in I end up with the old problem again... but now a reboot with the UPS attached got it back.
🙂
Thanks
Peter.

Re: 516 smb problems after upgrade to 6.6.1
Hi,
I tried to do the update from 6.6.1 to actual. Pressing check for update return: your system is currently running the latest .....
The same on a second RN104 machine. What is wrong?

Re: 516 smb problems after upgrade to 6.6.1
6.7.0 was never posted to the update server. It was available as a local update but has now been pulled.
6.7.1 Beta is available now as a local update.
