This is my first Netgear product in a long time other than some unmanaged ethernet switches. This is a basic setup, took the router out of the box, plugged it in, logged into it, changed the passwords and the wireless network info. That's it so far.
Next step is to turn on the VPN in the router. I have followed the instructions in the router. I setup ddns, I validated I can ping that address. I then went to the Advanced tab, found the VPN, and clicked on the box to enable VPN.
I then downloaded the openvpn client.
I then clicked on the link in the router window for a "Windows Client" and downloaded the zip file.
I then as admin, ran the install of the openvpn client.
I then extracted the zip file fromt the router to the c:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config
I then ran the OpenVPN client as administrator.
I then right clicked on the OpenVPN gui and clicked connect.
It tells me "connecting", then it appears to timeout and tries to reconnect.
It is complaining about a TLS handshake. Given the instructions provided to me and having gone through them several times now I am still unable to get this to connect. What steps am I missing? This looks like it should be straight forward, and yet it isn't.
Frankly, this router is about 2 nose hairs away from making a trip back to Best Buy where I will pickup another Asus and call it a day. Getting pretty frustrated after messing with this all afternoon when it should have been a 15 minute setup process to unbox, boot, basic config, and setup vpn connectivity.
Sorry for the frustration. To make matters worse Mon-Friday support from Netgear...

Disregard. I decided to take this back to Best Buy. Thought I would try something different this time.
The OpenVPN client should be very straight forward and the router should just allow the connnections after following the basic instructions.
After spending an afternoon battling with it in some much un-needed quality time I have decided I am not wasting any more time.
Stuff like this should work out of the box. If it doesn't something is wrong. Netgear support is sorely lacking. I don't think I will be back to buy another Netgear product other than some "dumb" ethernet switches.
