Bridging

Hello,
I have a question about my set up. I have netgear AC1600 modem router connected via Ethernet to a NETGEAR Orbi Mesh Dual-Band RBK10. Through the Lan port not the Internet port. Essentially I want the two routers to share one home network. Due to having an Orbi WiFi Add-on Satellite. The satellite has an ip of 19.2.168.1.2 and cannot be configured. I had to put the orbi router at 1.3. Should I be worried that the router is showing an amber light and the satellite is showing a blue light?

Sounds like you are running two routers on your network.

Two routers on one network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.

It may be possible to put the modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router. Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:

A lot of people use an Orbi system in AP mode, especially if they have a decent router in front of it. Only you know which of your two routers provides the best features for your needs.

Re: Bridging

How would I do this. Would I have to reset orbi router to default again? I believe I tired setting my main router as a modem only and things didn’t go so well.

Do I connect a lan cable from my modem to the internet port or lan port of my orbi router

Get the manual for your modem/router.

Visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

and feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Read the section Cable the Modem Router to a Router and Use Bridge Mode.
