Configure my old WGR614v10 to email logs

I'm guessing my first clue to my issue is that this site won't let me enter my model number other than the subject line.

I'm also guessing that because I cannot set a port number in the email logs settings, nor can I append smtp.gmail.com::587 I'm going to be stuck with port 25 and therefore it won't forward emails to me.

If I haven't got this figured right, could someone tell me how to configure my WGR614v10 Router to send me the email logs?

I thought it was worth asking, in case someone has a workaround, like logging into the router, copying the logs and saving them. LOL  But, every once in a while a person can get lucky.

Any ideas, other than sorting my Nighthawk's logs? 🙂  Funny how I just realized that's an option since I have a Nighthawk and my WGR6 has to go through it.
Maybe I should just consider myself lucky to be behind the Nighthawk. 😕

I will accept scrapping the old router and buy a new one. I just have to get the purchase past the Sergeant... my wife. 🙂

I think it's odd that I can find the old WGR6 on the site but can't use any of the features in the community to mention it. lol

But I can do this: Link to my WGR614v10 Woo Hoo!

The original WGR614 dates from 2003. Your version, from 2009, is a mere teenager.

Any instructions on what that can do will be in the manual.

Visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

See the section Configuring E-Mail Alert and Web Access Log Notifications

When it comes to sending logs, a lot depends on the SMTP server you use. These have been through many changes this century. Servers like Google and Outlook have tightened up to fed off evil players. ISPs can be ever more picky.

You don't say which SMTP server you plan to use. Even there, a  server that works with one router might not play ball with another model.

If this feature is important to you, you may have to drag your network into the 21st century. You have done well to keep this one on the road.

Re: Configure my old WGR614v10 to email logs

Michael, thank you for responding. I didn't expect to find a solution, but you pointed to a potential one. If I want my logs sent from my older router, I must find a server to let me use port 25. 🙂   Google, I mean Gmail, is more rigid than I hoped it would be. GMAIL, my first choice, is not working with the Nighthawk either. It's my youngest 'child,' and although configured via Gmail, I have yet to receive a log file.

I'm happy to hear my old WGR614 isn't so old. It serves me well, but I must retire it in favor of the GB links. 100MB just doesn't cut it nowadays.

I have the Nighthawk set to smtp.gmail.com @ port 587, which I read online is the correct port config to use with Gmail. But, so far, no joy. I've read the help below the email section in the router and heard you say the manual will have details unavailable directly from the router. I will try that, but I still suspect the issues I'm dealing with will require more information than the manual from Netgear will provide. The setup seems simple enough. Unfortunately, even with the Nighthawk, having the correct config won't be enough; I'll need something other than Gmail.

I've got a WordPress & website server I picked up online to experiment with. Perhaps I shall try to see if that server will allow me to email myself. At least with it, I have access to its settings.

Re: Configure my old WGR614v10 to email logs

I use Outlook.com for most logs.

smtp-mail.outlook.com

port 587

I have no idea what the WGR614v10 can accept.
