Orbi system
Honeywell thermostat wifi
Keep getting error code wrong PWord
Searching the internet I found a bunch of netgear forum post about 2.4g. How the device your setting up the thermostat has to be on the 2.4g network not 5g
I have followed those details and turned off the ssd for the 5g. But when my phone or tablet reconnect they keep connecting to 5g. Looking in the orbi control panel I can confirm that yes They are connected to 5g.
I selected the forget network and rejoined in both devices.
I looked in the orbi control panel and I see no location to temporarily turn off 5g to link the thermostat.
What am I doing wrong ?
Any other method to turn off 5g or force my phone or tablet to join 2.4 only ?

So some interesting information
- yesterday thermostat would join iPhone hotspot named “iPhone”
- today thermostat would not join SSId with & symbol in it.
- removed & and the thermostat connects.
I found this information below on the internet.
Honeywell thermostat invalid wifi password
If you’re receiving invalid wi-fi password error when you try to connect to Wi-Fi, please confirm the following:
No special characters have been used in your WiFi network name (SSID) – reset and rename it if necessary.

Re: Failure Connection (Honeywell WIFI Thermostat)
Some have luck with turning down the 5ghz broadcast strength and then disconnecting/reconnecting.
Have you tried this?

Re: Failure Connection (Honeywell WIFI Thermostat)
I did so some research and did find someone saying to turn down the 5g to 25% and unplugging any satellite units
Pretty crazy what extent someone has to go to for a internet of things device.
Obviously very poor design and planning on Honeywell’s part.

Re: Failure Connection (Honeywell WIFI Thermostat)
So I unplugged the two satellites so only the router is present.
Turned down 5g to 25%
Connected phone to 2.4g and verified it on or I app that phone was 2.4g
Attempted thermostat failed and PW is cut and pasted so no errors.
Going to call Honeywell tomorrow and see what they have to say. This is seriously BS going to return the piece of junk if they have no good resolutions.
Hope to see a proper netgear response

Re: Failure Connection (Honeywell WIFI Thermostat)
And he said the thermostat would join his cell hotspot.
I tried this and it worked first try
So 100% it’s a netgear orbi issue can’t recall if any of the other posts had resolved conclusions??
Would really appreciate a netgear solution for this. As it’s clearly a netgear issue.

Re: Failure Connection (Honeywell WIFI Thermostat)
Connect that to orbi and run the thermostat off the AP ?
Seems petty sad but since the thermostat connects to my phone. It’s clearly a orbi issue

Re: Failure Connection (Honeywell WIFI Thermostat)
Try setting up a phones hotspot with the same ssid/password as the router. Then shut off the orbi, setup the thermostat with the hotspots ssid (same as mesh systems ssid). Once setup, shut off the hotspot and turn on the router.

Re: Failure Connection (Honeywell WIFI Thermostat)
Then set my phone as the hotspot with the same pw and ssid.
See if it will connect to the hotspot , then turn hotspot off and turn orbi on
