Help setting up my netgear router

I just got FIOS turned on today, I've spent hours on hold over the past few days. I have a brand new netgear ac1600, but I can not get it to see the internet. If I plug my laptop directly into the ONT I get internet, but when I try to set up the router it tells me there is no connection available. I've been googling and digging through this sub for about two hours, I'm completely out of ideas. Can anybody help me out please?

what fibre ont do you have?

What actual router do you have? AC1600 is a speed not a model.

As plemans says, the modem may be the key to it. If it is a modem/router, it can get in the way of the second router.

When it comes to setting it up, visit the support pages:

      Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Look for the model number on the label on the device.

That page will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device, if they exist.

Begin with the Quick Start/Installation Guide.

There may also be some helpful videos on what to do.

You may have done that already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
