Netgear R6020 as a repeater

I have a Netgear R6300v2 router and would like to extend my wifi coverage with another router working as a wireless repeater, will the Netgear R6020 work as a repeater? I'm not sure if it supports repeating, if it doesn't is there another router that can do the job under $40? I don't want a range extender, I want a repeater set up under the same SSID so it will be seamless.

Re: Netgear R6020 as a repeater

I have three of these running. I don't see "Repeating" in the menus.

You could disable wireless on the primary router, cable the R6020 to a central location and enable "Access Point".

Will it work as a wireless extender/access point?

Yes. Page 95 of the "User Manual".

Wrong. Page 95 has router backup instructions. In fact "repeater" is only mentioned once in the whole manual on page 12 concerning placement next to "repeaters". The only way to use this as an access point is with a lan cable connected to a router that is connected to the internet. I could find nothing in the user manual indicating otherwise.

I came here looking for the same. I read the manual and it appears it doesn't support wireless repeating. It must be connected via lan.

That is access point  mode.

One way to achieve that is to use Powerline Ethernet to connect a second router, in access point (AP) mode, to the main router over the local mains circuit. Works fine here with an Orbi router in AP mode.

The R6020 is, by the way, pretty well the bottom of Netgear's router range. According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. So in AP mode it won't go faster than 100 Mbps over Ethernet.

Did you notice that this discussion is four years old?

Nothing wrong with that.
