Hard to tell without knowing what you are doing and where it goes wrong.

The best way to update firmware is manually.

Your router dates back to 2014. Netgear provides free support for the first 90 days after purchase.

This place is free.

Not a colour I have even come across.

Red, white, green and amber are the colours that Netgear uses. They can also be flashing or steady.

Neon is a technology. Neon lights can come in a rainbow of colours.

Re: PLEASE HELP

Hi dotelvis,

Thank you for the clarification. Since you have green internet LED it means that you should be able to go online. Do you have internet access? You said that the " router update then tell me it has FAILED?" Did you mean that you are in the process of updating the router and it went successful but somehow telling you it failed or you cannot access a website? Does it affect all your devices connected to the router? What is the current firmware version of your router?

Note: Please try to reset the router.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance.

Oliver

Re: PLEASE HELP

Thank you Oliver for your response.

I have Internet access with all my gadgets; no problem.

Yes, It downloads the firmware then tells me it FAILED!

My last version is V1.0.0.74 and I was trying to get the latest one V1.0.0.76 which fails.

Before I pay $89.90 I will purchase a NEW router. I am a Novice swould you suggest what kind of router would work for me?

Thank you!

The best way to update firmware is to do it manually. The automated process can't cope with anything out of the ordinary. It can also damage your device if anything falls over in the [rocess. (The Netgear team isn't going to admit to that.)

This is the best option:

I know I have said that before, but no harm in repeating the usual advice. It works for most people.

Don't do that. This place is free. Lots of (mostly) helpful volunteers.

Where do you live?

The science of neon gas – The colour of neon is strictly orange-red

I don't agree with that either.

Re: PLEASE HELP

Your last comment hasn't arrived here yet but I got an email.

As stated previously, I have attempted several times to download manually and all I get is an error message. DELL gets the same error when they attempt it.

Thanks!

What is that error message? When do you get it?

These things can fail for many reasons with many possible error messages. Knowing exactly what happens is the key to fixing it.

Re: PLEASE HELP

I click to download manually, then I open File and click on DISC Image and it says, "Disc Image is corrupted." I then click on Release Notes

and get "Hmmmmm, can't reach this page."

Re: PLEASE HELP

Hi dotelvis,

Just for clarification, did you follow these steps?

To manually upgrade your router’s firmware:

  1. Connect your computer to your router with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Visit NETGEAR Support.
  3. Enter your router’s Model Number or Product Name.
  4. Click Downloads.
  5. Select a firmware version and click Download.
  6. Unzip the file if needed.
  7. Enter routerlogin.net into a web browser.

    A login page displays

  8. Enter the router admin user name and password.

The default user name is admin. The password is the one you specified the first time you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.

  9. Select ADVANCED > Administration or Settings > Administration.
  10. Select Firmware Update or Router Update.

    The label varies by router.

  11. Click Choose File or Browse, then locate and select the firmware file that ends in .img or .chk.
  12. Click the Upload button.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance.

ISSUE RESOLVED! Thanks everyone for your comments!

DELL had me power off and power on my Router then the upgrade process worked perfect! I should always remember to

turn off/on as that usually works with everything! Hooray!

Better to follow the instructions, and not rely on your intuition.

> Neon is a technology. Neon lights can come in a rainbow of colours.

Strictly speaking, neon is an element.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon

There's a picture there, showing its distinctive "orange-red glow".

> Where I live, we call this color Neon........but it is greenish!

There are some green lines in the neon emission spectrum, but they're
generally drowned out by the more numerous and intense reds and oranges.

So, whatever you might call "this color Neon", no one else can be
expected to know what you mean.

In gas-discharge signage, most colors other that that distinctive
orange-red are produced by other gases (argon, mercury vapor) and
phosphor coatings on the glass; neon is not involved.

For a good (educational) time, get a cheap diffraction grating, and
use it to look at some signs.  The difference between an actual neon
spectrum and what you get from other-color signs is obvious and
striking.  Better hurry, before LEDs drive the educational signs into
oblivion.
