Possible to run a wg302 off of a wndr3400 which is set up as an AP off of a wndr 4300?

is this possible?  if possible, is it a bad idea?  if not, how to go about setting the wg302?  the 3400 and 4300 are working just fine right now together, hoping to extend coverage a little more to some outlying areas.

thanks

Yes, it's possible, though I'm not sure you'd really want to.  The WG302 only supports 802.11g Wi-Fi with a max link speed of 54 Mbps (or 108 Mbps using compatible Netgear Wi-Fi adapters).  Best case real world throughput will be around 21 Mbps (or much worse if you choose the repeater option in the next paragraph).  If anything is better than nothing for those outlying areas, then read on.

The best set up is to connect the WG302 LAN port to a LAN port on either the WNDR3400 or the WNDR4300 using an Ethernet cable.  You could also configure the WG302 as a wireless repeater but Wi-Fi speeds for clients connected to it will be cut in half (50%) due to back and forth retransmission of wireless signals.  Furthermore, it will probably slow down other Wi-Fi clients connected to the WNDRs because the 802.11g style Wi-Fi signals will take up valuable transmission timeslots.

According to the manual, the WG302 by default is set up with a static IP address of 192.168.0.228. It's very likely that you will need to change this.  You will need to connect a computer to the WG302 LAN using an Ethernet cable and log into 192.168.0.228.  Easiest thing to do is enable the DHCP client so that the WG302 can automatically pick up an IP address from the DHCP server running on your main WNDR.  Alternatively, change the static IP address so that it's in the right subnet as your WNDR LAN, and set the gateway address to your main WNDR and fill in the DNS addresses.  Finish by setting up the Wi-Fi.  If you plan to connect the WG302 LAN to WNDR LAN, then set the Wi-Fi channel to an unused channel and set up the password and encryption.  Read the manual if you want to set up the WG302 as a repeater.

Good luck.
