R6220 Bridge mode

How do I set my Netgear AC1200 router model R6220 to bridge mode? I need to do this in order to get rid of my double NAT for gaming console reasons.

Unfortunately, the pix mean nothing to me.

Did the link I sent earlier mean anything?

How to bridge mode DZS router | DZS Router Bridge mode H660EW-V - YouTube

You can narrow down the options by looking fir the things on the modem. Does it have a row of Ethernet ports on the back? Does it do wifi?

On the gem, is there a user community out there somewhere? Its equivalent of this place.

Unfortunately, there are several definitions of "bridge mode" depending on the context and the devices you are using. In the case of the R6220, it doesn't support some of the options. In any case, it isn't likely to get what you want.

Start with that rather than your idea on how to get there. What symptoms do you see that lead to your problems?

How to fix issues with Double NAT | Answer | NETGEAR Support

What is causing this double NAT? Is it something to do with the unnamed gaming device? Is it a second router on your network? Maybe a modem/router?

What is the modem/gateway/ONT (make and model) between your R6220 and the Internet?

With modem/routers, the preferred approach is to put the modem/router into its bridge mode, which means disabling the router but and making it work in modem only mode.

Another scenario is to put the R6220 into wireless access point (AP) mode, disabling its router bit.

Tell us a bit more about your circumstances and someone may come up with a more informed suggestion.

Re: R6220 Bridge mode

I only have one router and one modem. When I go to play a game (Just Dance 2022) on my x box one gaming console, an app is required to do so. I have installed the app on my mobile device. Both the mobile device and the console are connected to the internet. Nothing happens when it is time to pair the app to the game. The troubleshooting platforms I have come across say it is probably due to double NAT. I tried to fix the issue on my router by going to routerlogin.net and was not given the option to put it into bridge mode in advanced settings.

What is that modem? Make and model? Does it have a row of Ethernet (LAN) ports 9n the back?

That is why I asked about the modem. If it is also a router (many are) that can cause double NAT.

It may be the modem/router that needs to be in bridge mode. (There is no "bridge mode" option for the router) Do that and you put it into "modem only" mode. That disables the router but and eliminates the double NAT problem.

Re: R6220 Bridge mode

Here is a picture of the bottom of my modem. The brand is DZS (the one provided to us by our ISP at the time of installation).

If I were to change the setting to modem only then would that affect the WIFi connection on other devices coming from the Netgear router? The yellow cord is plugged into the Netgear router. I am not able to send a picture of that. It only allows me to send one attachment at a time. I do have a picture though if you want to see it. Thanks!

That looks suspiciously like a modem/router. (Does it also do voice, phone, connectisns?) That is likely to cause the NAT problem you see.

It shouldn't. If anything it should clean up your network and get the modem out of the way.

The challenge could be to put this thing into bridge (modem only) mode. You'll have to track down a model number, or ask your ISP, for help on that front.

Re: R6220 Bridge mode

The modem possibly could have a phone, voicemail, etc. however, we do not have a landline so it is not set up for that. I did contact my ISP about the issue and they suggested using a public IP address to solve the issue. I'm worried that this would cause security issues with the WIFi. If I were to go this route, is there a setting in the Netgear router that would solve this issue or is there a way to change the setting to Modem only in the router?

It may not be set up for voice, but that does not mean that the router bit is disabled. The good news is that you don't have to accommodate any voice features.

I did contact my ISP about the issue and they suggested using a public IP address to solve the issue.

I don't know what they mean by that. which IP address? If it is the "Internet IP Address" most ISPs use the option Get Dynamically from ISP.

I can't see how messing around with the Internet IP address would affect the wifi, but I don't know what they mean by that.

What you really want to know is how to put your modem/router into "modem only" mode. Unfortunately, without knowing the model number, you can't run the usual Google search for bridge mode. (That is one somewhat confusing label for modem only mode.)

This is the best I can manage:

How to bridge mode DZS router | DZS Router Bridge mode H660EW-V - YouTube

I have no idea if it applies to your model.

As I said before,

Re: R6220 Bridge mode

Would you be able to send diagrams/screenshots on how to change the Netgear to access mode? I will see if that solves the issue. Thanks!

Re: R6220 Bridge mode

This is the response I got from our ISP. I can't change any settings or will be cut off. So I guess I am screwed and can't play the game : )

Dear Jennifer Moulton,

Thank you for your request.

In my last email I said NO, changing it to AP mode (also called Bridge mode) will break your internal network, expose your devices to all SenaWave customers, and we would turn off your service.

You really only have two choices, find some workaround with the game developers or get a Public IP address.

Another option, not that I'm recommending it, is consult with our competitors on the UTOPIA network and see if one of them will provide you a Public IP address at no, or lower, charge.

That response sounds like complete junk. They clearly do not understand how this technology works.

The talk of a public IP address sort of confirms that.

I have given you a link on how you could try to put the ISP's device into bridge mode. If you try it and your connection still works, fine.

If not, then putting the R6220 into AP mode will have no impact on what the network sees at your end. That's the whole point.

Your other option is to find an ISP that does what customers want rather than imposing its ideas on everyone.

Have you talked to the people behind the game you want to use?

Re: R6220 Bridge mode

My thoughts exactly! I have tried reaching out to the game manufacturer (ubisoft) several times, but have not had any response back. I will keep trying. Here is an image of the tag on the DZS router. Don't know if this is the model number or not, but it was all I could find.
