R6220 unable to configure connected devices
Hi I'm new to this forum, I have a question regarding R6220, I hope this is still a valid product to ask about (or if not I'd like to know what is the current recommended model) My question, or ...

And thirdly, what I'm primarily trying to do is to name the devices, as over the time the family gets new devices, and I'd like to name them to know who they are, since there's also accidental attempts to connect from neighbours, which I'd like to prevent.
The appearance of the GUI in Netgear's Nighthawk app depends on the firmware. Older devices won't look quite the same as new stuff. Here is what I see in the MR90.
- Basic
- Attached Devices
- Click device
- Edit Device
You should see something similar. That is certainly the pattern in my old R7800.
If you are using Windows, the old Netgear Genie lets you rename devices.

Netgear wants to kill it – which is why it is hidden away on the support pages – but some of us diehards like it. This has a Network Map
Click a device and then Modify.

Wonderful, it works 🙂
I installed Genie, and when using it I get the full functionality again, I can now change settings and edit names of devices as I used to be able to do through the web browser before.
And as you can see from my previous reply, the browser says something about a missing schema, while I don't know the details about that I can only assume this is what makes the browsers not, but it works in the old Genie app.
From my quick googling this seems to be OS-related, and I'm on Windows 11, so I will try to get hold of a Linux machine and test on that as soon as I can, but for now the case is resolved by using Genie.
Thank you so much for your reply and that link!
Here's the map from Genie by the way
Best regards

I spoke to soon, it's solved but partially 🙂
While I can change the names of devices in Genie, and they are saved/persisted between sessions, i.e. if I close and restart the app. the changed names of devices do not show up when accessing the router via the web browser.
In the browser they're still only listed as "unknown" even if they are named in Genie. Does Genie only save settings locally and not update the router? If so I can live with that, I just wanted to check so I'm not missing any step.
Best regards
Mike
